You've arrived at Castlevania, and you're here on business:

To destroy forever the Curse of the Evil Count.

Unfortunately, everybody's home this evening. Bats, ghosts, every kind of creature you can imagine. You'll find 'em all over the place, if they don't find you first.

You've got to get through six monstrous floors before you even meet up with the Master of the House. Your Magic Whip will help, and you'll probably find a weapon or two along the way.

But once you make it to the tower, you can count on a Duel to the Death.
The Count has waited 100 years for a rematch. He's ready. Are you?

Released to the United States of America on May 1st, 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Castlevania began a series of games that has now spanned over 20 years. The game is based off of Konami's Vampire Killer which was released in Japan for the MSX2 Home Computer. Castlevania is a one player game in which you play as Simon Belmont, a member of a Vampire Hunting Clan who have stepped forth to rid the world of Dracula.

It is the year 1691, Transylvania has been at peace for 100 years now, and the peasants and villagers have begun to purge their minds of the memories of the times when the lands were dominated by chaos and shadows, and when the undead walked the Earth. However Count Dracula returns every 100 years to plague the land, bringing with him the evil forces of hell, and it just so happens that the people of Transylvania's time has run out. The Prince of Darkness has just returned to his ancestral home, Castlevania and called forth his minions to purge the world of human flesh. The people of Transylvania cry out for a hero, a protector to defend them against the evil desires of Dracula. They do not need to look far as Simon Belmont, a descendent of a long line of Vampire Hunters lives within the land of Transylvania. Armed with a whip he calls the Vampire Killer, he sets forth on a journey through the darkened countryside to rid the world of the ultimate evil, a journey in which he must fight his way through legions of Zombies, Monstrous Bats and even Death itself, a journey which must end with a final showdown between himself and the Dark Lord, a journey to Castlevania......
