It is the year 1792, a hundred years have passed since legendary hero Simon Belmont defeated the evil Count Dracula and sealed him away for what was supposed to be eternity. The people have long forgotten about the horror of the undead, thus allowing a few depraved individuals to restore the Prince of Darkness to his former state, sleeping in his coffin by day and preying upon hapless victims by night.

Dracula now plans to get revenge on his old enemy through his descendants by locking Annet, the girlfriend of Belmont's great grandson, Richter, and her sister, Maria, in his dark gloomy castle.

Once aware of this, Richter takes his ancestor's sacred whip, passed down through the years from father to son, and sets out for Dracula's castle to rescue Annet and Maria, and to seal away the evil Count for good......

Released on July 20th, 1995 Castlevania: Dracula X has attained more of a cult following and is not among the popular mainstream titles such as Dracula's Curse or Super Castlevania IV. This is mainly due to large differences between this, and Rondo of Blood, which is the Japanese PC game that Dracula X was supposed to be based off of. In addition to the differences, the gameplay is overall more difficult and was a complete step down from the successful Super Castlevania IV. While some consider Dracula X a rare classic, most have forgotten the game ad moved on to others in the Castlevania series. Rondo of Blood was finally brought to the U.S. in its original form, paired with a re-release of Symphony of the Night on the PSP game Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles.
