Notes
In Japan it is known as Akumajo Dracula, which translates to Demon Castle Dracula.

In 1987 the game was ported to Arcade, where it was known as Vs. Castlevania.

In 1990 the game was ported to 3 different computer systems: Commodore 64, Amiga Home Computer, and IBM PC.

On November 16, 2002 it was released on the Windows PC as part of the Konami Collector’s Series: Castlevania and Contra. All 3 of the NES Castlevania games were part of this compilation, along with Contra and Super C.

It has been released several times for play on cell phones since 2002.

Was included with the NES Classic, released on November 11th, 2016.

Castlevania Anniversary Collection also includes the Japanese version of the game.

Remakes/Alternate Versions
Vampire Killer, which is very similar to Castlevania was released in Japan on the MSX2 in October 1986.

Released on Arcade in 1987 in the United States as Vs. Castlevania.

An arcade version titled Haunted Castle was released in 1988. It has an alternate storyline, but there are many similarities between that and Castevania.

Super Castlevania IV on the SNES is considered to be a retelling and expanded version of the original Castlevania game, as it takes place in the same year, 1691.

Castlevania was re-released with improved graphics in 1993 as Akumajō Dracula, for the Sharp X68000 hardware.

Castlevania Chronicles was released on the Sony Playstation in 2001. It contained an arranged version of the game, as well as a port of Akumajō Dracula from the X68000.

Ported to the Game Boy Advance in 2004, on that version you can save the game in between levels.
