This is my TWELFTH (12th) Castlevania guide, which I'm pretty sure qualifies me as insane. But hey, I love Castlevania and hopefully you do too (or, at the very least, you want to play through Dracula X!). This game stars the young Richter Belmont as he sets off to fulfill his destiny and not only defeat Dracula but rescue his fiance in the process. Castlevania: Dracula X is... not a normal Castlevania game. To understand this let's go through a little Castlevania history. First of all, this isn't the first Castlevania game that Richter appears in. That would be Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, but Rondo of Blood WAS (more on that in a second) a Japanese-only game released for the PC Engine in 1993! So, in 1995 Konami released Castlevania: Dracula X internationally. In essence, Dracula X is inspired by Rondo of Blood. I mean, it's got the same characters and plot after all, but several elements of the game were re-worked and redone, including game play and level design. However, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood was re-released on the Sony PSP in 2007 in the US, under the name "Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles. It included the original game, a re-mastered 2.5D version of Rondo of Blood, and fan favorite Symphony of the Night, all together on one disk (one hell of a game, let me tell you!), but note that Dracula X made no appearance despite the PSP game's name. Many Castlevania fans consider Rondo of Blood the superior Richter adventure, but Dracula X still has its place, and this is a guide for that game. I hope you enjoy the guide. ~ Bkstunt ========== FOLLOW ME! ========== Want to talk about some games!? Maybe throw out some ideas for what YOU want to see me write about next? It never hurts to be prepared! o Note the simple HUD on the screen. The empty circle will show your sub-weapon once you get one (Dagger, Axe, Cross, Holy Water, Watch, or Key) and the top line is your health! The line under that is the bosses health. It only gets filled once you get to the boss room. To the right is your hearts counter (The "*", and sorry, no SKULL ASCii!). .´¯¯`./ . .---.´¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯' *// 10 ' '_--'---------------------------| /`.__.´|_' `._________________________.´ You can also press START to pause the game, which will show your lives remaining and your current score! .´¯¯`./ . .---. LIVES 02 *// 10 ' '_--' SCORE 000000 /`.__.´|_' o This game is a LOT simpler than the other SNES Castlevania title, Super Castlevania IV. You aren't timed, there aren't blocks, you can't swing your whip in any direction, you can't brandish your whip, etc. o Richter often recoils when hit, but if you are ducking he will stay where he is, which is VERY good to know. o There are a few items that you can find while playing the game. Below I'll list them all and what they do (which can help if you're not used to Castlevania games). - Heart (Small/Large): Increases the number of times a special weapon can be used (Small hearts add 1 heart, Large hearts add 5 hearts). - Pendant: Annihilates all minor opponents on screen as soon as you get it. - Mystic Sphere: You receive a mystic sphere when you defeat an enemy boss. Restores all of the player's life. - 1 UP: Increases the number of lives remaining by one. - Food: Restores some of the player's life. Food is hidden inside walls, etc. - Transparency Elixir: Makes you invincible for a certain amount of time when taken. o Once again, the famous sub-weapons of Castlevania return. Look below to see the manual's description of the sub-weapons and how many hearts each one costs to use. - Dagger (Heart Consumption: 1). Extremely quick, but doesn't have a great deal of destructive power. - Axe (Heart Consumption: 1). Hard to handle, but has devastating power. - Boomerang (Heart Consumption: 1). East to handle and highly effective as well. - Holy Water (Heart Consumption: 3). Has a wide scope of application, but is not deadly. - Watch (Heart Consumption: 5). Slows the movement of opponents on screen for a certain amount of time. It is, however, ineffective against some opponents. - Key (Heart Consumption: 0). Used to open locked doors, but can only be used once. You can also KILL things with this "weapon", but the range is of course incredibly short. o I often call the "Boomerang" the Cross and the "Transparency Elixir" the Invisibility Potion. Just FYI. o If you grab a sub-weapon you don't want, the old one will fall out behind you! This is AWESOME and lets you re-grab your old one if you want it! o Remember that you can use item crashes in this game! You can do so by pressing the X Button when your hearts are flashing on screen. Below is a quick summary of all the item crashes in the game and how many hearts they cost: - Dagger (Heart Consumption: 10). Richter stands in place and chucks knives like crazy! - Axe (Heart Consumption: 10). Richter floats in mid-air and shoots axes out around him in a circle. - Boomerang (Heart Consumption: 15) Richter floats in mid-air and crosses spray out everywhere! Grand Cross! - Holy Water (Heart Consumption: 20) Richter floats in mid-air and holy water fills the screen. Let it rain! - Watch (Heart Consumption: 15) Richter floats in mid-air and is surrounded by orbs that swirl around him, killing (or hurting) anything they come in contact with. - Key (Heart Consumption: 0) Richter floats in mid-air and... nothing happens! This is however useful as it costs no hearts and can make you phase-through certain attacks. o Be VERY aware of your foot positioning and the limits of your jump! This is the single most important thing in the game! o Use the KEY CRASH to avoid certain attacks! It's pretty handy. o Get through the stage without getting hurt at all (which is of course best done with an emulator) and you'll get a 1-UP! o Bosses sometimes have DEATH ATTACKS and try to get in one last hit after they "die". Be very careful! You don't want to get hit and die right at your moment of victory! o There are a few different endings in the game. To get the best one you need to do certain things (like rescue Maria and Annet). The guide will tell you exactly what to do. Just be sure to pay close attention to it in Stage 3! The basic gist of it is, for the BEST ending: Stage 1 --> Stage 2 --> Stage 3 --> Stage 4 --> Stage 5 ALT That is the route you WANT to go. Stage 4 ALT should be avoided, as should Stage 5. This guide will cover every stage, but that is the route you want to take. o The STAGES look like this (Flow Diagram Time!): o----------o o----------o o----------o | STAGE 1 | --> | STAGE 2 | --> | STAGE 3 | o----------o o----------o o----------o | | .´--------------------------------' | | o----------o o----------o | STAGE 4' | .´-------------| STAGE 4 | o----------o | o----------o | | | | | | o----------o | o----------o | STAGE 5 | <----' | STAGE 5' | o----------o o----------o | | | | '----------------.----------------' | | o----------o | STAGE 6 | o----------o | | o----------o | STAGE 7 | o----------o Onto the game! ============================================================================== Game Start! ============================================================================== (-NOTE-) This is the Manual's Story: The setting: medieval Transylvania. Several hundred years have passed since legendary hero Simon Belmont defeated the evil Count Dracula and sealed him away for what was supposed to be eternity. The people have long since forgotten about the horror of the undead, thus allowing a few depraved individuals to restore the Prince of Darkness to his former state; sleeping in his coffin by day and preying upon hapless victims by night. Dracula now plans to get revenge on his old enemy through his descendants by locking Annet, the girlfriend of Belmont's great grandson, Richter, and her sister, Maria, in his dark and gloomy castle. Once aware of this, Richter takes his ancestor's sacred whip, passed down through the years from father to son, and sets out for Dracula's castle to rescue Annet and Maria, and to seal away the evil Count for good. (-NOTE-) This is the Game Intro's Story: Transylvania. The Middle Ages... An evil Darkness had befallen the land, giving rise to sinister vampire legends. Until now the people of Transylvania had grown accustomed to their peaceful existance, secure in the knowledge that their famed hero, Simon Belmont, had sealed the fate of Count Dracula several hundred years prior. Wicked townsfolk, possessed by the Darkness conspired to revive the King of Blood.... Dracula, now undead once more, plotted to exact revenge upon the descendant of the family that destroyed him... Richter Belmont. The Prince of Evil viciously attacke the town with his unholy legion. He snatched away Richter's girlfriend, Annet and her sister, Maria. Imprisoning them in his vile castle, he lies in wait for Richter to attempt a rescue. Richter, burdened by his destiny, left for Dracula's castle with his legendary ancestral whip, the determination to save his loved ones and the resolve to send Dracula to eternal damnation once and for all! ============================================================================== Stage I: Burning Town =====================================================================[DX01]=== | Playing: 'Bloodlines' | ========================= OK, let's do this! "Bloodlines" REALLY get's me in the Castlevania mood! Get used to how Richter jumps here. Relax; there is no timer and knowing the limits of your jumping ability is IMPORTANT and will save your ass in the future. Also, try doing the backflip ability (press jump quickly twice in a row). Note that your whip CANNOT be aimed (this isn't Super Castlevania IV!), so get used to your limitation. Keep in mind that we can use ITEM CRASHES throughout the game and it's ALWAYS a good idea to get yourself out of a jam! Therefore, grabbing hearts is ALWAYS a good idea, just as long as you don't put yourself in danger! Head forward and whip the candles, grabbing the hearts and in the third candle the .: KNIFE :. sub-weapon. You'll come across an APE SKELETON as you go on. These guys are SLOW, making for perfect fodder for your first bit of whip-play. Past the first one is a set of stairs heading up. The candle up here holds an .: AXE :. in it if you want it (I'd grab it). Grab it if you wish and keep heading right past the Ape Skeletons to another screen. Here there is a SKELETON up above you. Kill him with the axe or BE CAREFUL of his bone-throwing. He'll throw three bones in a row and can easily throw them far enough to hit you while you get the candle to the far right! Head up the first set of stairs and before jumping to the right note the curled-up BAT. You can kill it by whipping while you jump. Continue up to the left and jump to the far right quickly. The bat will follow you. Get to the right and kill it when it comes. The skeleton up above to the left will likely jump TO you as well (Note how FAR they can jump!) so kill him too! Keep heading up and kill the bats as they come at you. Be careful on the stairs and be ready to whip quickly! At the top head to the upper right to continue. On this new screen wait for the Skeleton to jump over to you and kill him. Take the upper path here and you'll see some BONE PILLAR enemies below you. You can STAND on these enemies! Note their attacks as well: they can breath flame, spit fireballs, and lob fireballs. They can also change directions! The candle above them has a .: ROSARY :. you can pick up and kill all the enemies on screen, which I'd do. There will also be MEDUSA HEAD enemies showing up here! These enemies are ANNOYING. They are easy to kill, but are annoying due to their knack for showing up non-stop. Combine that with you jumping over pits and they can lead to an EASY death. Grab the rosary and drop down. The next pit you want to wait for a Medusa Head, kill it, and THEN jump. The next candle down here has a .: CROSS :. in it, which I'd grab! Like most Castlevania games, THIS is the weapon to have! Now, if you've taken any damage, cross the NEXT pit (wait for Medusa) and whip the candle to find a big piece of .: ROAST BEEF :.! Head back and watch out for Medusa Heads and make your way to the TOP of the screen. Once you are up here continue to the right and watch out for those jumps until you can get to a jump with a weird looking platform. The rock-looking platform will FLIP when you JUMP on it, so be ready to jump off it QUICKLY, whipping as you do so to KILL the incoming Medusa Head. Here you'll face some more Skeletons. Rush the first one and whip it to death and the top one will likely jump down to the left, letting you kill him easier. Climb up and another will jump over to your new ground, so kill him too. The candle up here has a .: DAGGER :. in it. Continue on to the right and a few jumps later you'll be on a new screen. Here you'll see a new enemy: the ZOMBIE. These things are pathetic and just shamble onwards. However, as you continue down this screen a giant BEHEMOTH will chase you from the left! You have to quickly move to the right, killing the Zombies and jumping over gaps. You HAVE TIME to get the candles and whip all Zombies if you wish (if you're quick and jump-whip), but at the end there will be TWO flippable blocks you'll have to jump across with a candle between them. The candle is BETTER left forgotten: all it has is a moneybag. Continue on to the next screen. Note the foreboding music! Here the second candle has an .: AXE :. in it. Soon you will come to the boss of this Stage! +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Cerberus - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: Ah, Cerberus, the mythical guardian of hell. | | Very fitting, no? Cerberus is a pretty easy boss, and really only has | | one attack besides his movement. But to be fair, his movement can be | | the thing that brings you down! For starters, he loves to pounce | | around, so if you're close to him be ready to duck. The fighting area | | is rather large though, so you could retreat away and have him pounce | | in front of you two. Be aware of his movement and chuck crosses or | | axes at him while avoiding his below attack and you'll come out on | | top. | | | | - Fireball: Cerberus will jump up and shoot a fireball into the ground. | | The fire will then travel along the ground, but is easily jumped over. | | You may want to reconsider playing video games if this hits you... | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ Grab the sphere that appears and head onwards to the second stage! ============================================================================== Stage II: Castle Entrance =====================================================================[DX02]=== | Playing: 'Vampire Killer' | ============================= Ah, "Vampire Killer"! Gotta love it! Head forwards and past the second jump a new enemy called the MERMAN will jump up from the water. These guys die easily but will try to jump at you if you let them live. Contine on this platform and kill TWO more. The next platform will FALL once you get on it, as will the one after that. The next one will be stable but will overlook a grey bridge, and you KNOW that isn't stable! Jump to the grey bridge and jump forward (so you cover more ground). You'll have two mermen block your way so quickly kill them! The bridge is collapsing! We must hurry. Don't even try to get the candles here (its not worth it) and head onward, killing the mermen along the way. You can go faster by jumping, but BE CAREFUL not to get hit by a merman or it is OVER. At the end the game will take over and Richter will jump onto the drawbridge and head into the castle! Here you have a simple walk to the right. On the way you can collect the candles for hearts and you'll only face two enemies: Skeleton Apes and Bats. Near the end the Skeleton Apes will throw barrels! Jump over them or whip them to stay safe. After two barrel-throwing Apes you'll come to a new screen. Here you'll be in the castle proper. This beginning area is full of constantly respawning zombies and one of the candles here has a .: DAGGER :. in it. Continue on and soon you'll see a yellow ball on the ground. This is a PEEPING EYE and it is annoying. It takes TWO hits to down and can move erratically. Above him is another new enemy: the AXE ARMOR. He chucks axes of course and can charge forward as well. He also takes a whopping SEVEN hits to kill! Crazy! To the left up the stairs in the candle is .: HOLY WATER :. if you wish to grab it. Now, jump up and stay on the far right of the platform the Axe Armor is on and start whipping him. Jump down if he gets to close, but remember you can destroy the axes he throws. Head up to the next screen. Up here proceed slowly and you'll see a PANTHER SKELETON. He'll charge at you once you get close, but one whip while ducking will kill him. Next you'll face several SPEAR GUARDS. These guys are ANNOYING. They can spin their spears to DEFLECT projectiles, swipe the spear at you and if they are above or below you they can thrust the spear up or down! To kill them you have to damage him FIVE times. You can hit them fairly easily as your whip is JUST long enough, but be careful for their swipe as it has range! Also be careful if any of them get above you! Kill two Spear Guards and continue. The far left is the worst spot as two Spear Guards can hang out on top and one below, making it HARD to kill the bottom one (an item crash or two can really help here; I used two Grand Cross attacks to kill all three of the Spear Guards). Another Panther Skeleton needs to be killed at the end. The bottom candle here also has an .: AXE :. in it, but once all that is done you are free to get higher and contine on to the next screen (or get higher and kill two more Spear Guards and THEN continue). To the right you must kill another Panther Skeleton. Note the candles up above too: you can't reach them with normal means (they are a small heart and a moneybag, just FYI). Past the Panther is a WERE SKELETON! I don't really like this guy. He can extend his head to try and hit you and he can stand still and spit out a TON of bones. Quickly dispose of him (sub-weapons help; he takes 3 hits). Past him are TWO Peeping Eyes. Ignore them if you can as the screen exit is near. But beware: the candle at the end has a .: DAGGER :. in it! Continue on to face the boss of this stage! +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Phantom Bat - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: Here we have a giant bat, a staple Castlevania | | boss. This guy really has NO attack moves of his own: his entire | | strategy is to run into you! EVERY TIME you hit him he breaks down | | into dozens of smaller bats, but these smaller bats follow each other | | in a line. You can also hurt the small bats as well to damage the | | boss! So as you can tell it is EASY to hurt this boss! | | | | To save yourself a hit, let the big bat move above you to the left | | when the fight first starts. As a rule it is easier to dodge the big | | bat rather than the small bats. From here, follow this one golden | | rule: ALWAYS hurt the BIG bat when he is on either side of the screen. | | This is because when you do, the small bats will roam around. This | | makes it so that they roam around the side of the screen and reconvene | | In the middle. In the meantime, hurt the small bats as much as you can | | to hurry the fight along. Crosses do wonders here. Keep at it and | | you'll soon be the victor! | | | | | | DEATH ATTACK! | | | | When the boss dies, it will be enveloped by fire. However, before | | the fight is over it will shoot several small bats out in a lower | | semi-circle. Get higher then the bat to avoid these smaller bats. | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ ============================================================================== Stage III: Castle Center =====================================================================[DX03]=== | Playing: 'Bloody Tears' | =========================== "Bloody Tears" may very well be the best song in Castlevania history. Head down and kill the two Bone Pillars you find so you can head UP. Be careful of the block here with spikes going up and down. Once you get past it and head up Medusa Heads will start coming. Now, from here you can either go left or right. Unless you want to head right past the spike block to the far right for an .: AXE :. sub-weapon, I recommend heading left. You can head more or less straight up this way, fighting Medusa Heads of course. Jump up the stairs to space out the Medusa Heads as well and likely make them miss you completely, but always be ready for one. The candles on the way up have large hearts as well (on both sides, actually). Head up and at one point jump past another spike block (kill a Medusa Head and THEN jump) to get near the top. As you approach the top, Bone Pillars will make it harder on you. I like to use an Item Crash here to save me the hits I'll take if I don't. Otherwise you need to charge the top left and make yourself room up here, then kill the Bone Pillars to the right with sub-weapons. There are some flippable blocks up here so be careful as you jump and make your way to the upper right to reach the next screen. Here watch out below for the Spear Guard as he'll try and stab you and get on the pillar to the right. You can stay to the left here and whip the other Spear Guard to kill him (be careful, the Spear Guard below can STILL reach you!). To the far left in the candle is some .: HOLY WATER :.. Not bad for these guards. Kill the guard below and don't worry about a hit or two as the candle behind him to the far left has some .: POT ROAST :. in it. Head down to continue. Down here we have some tricky platforming to do. The first higher candle here has a .: STOP WATCH :. in it and below that is an .: INVISIBILITY POTION :.. Save the potion for when you jump right onto the moving platform. Ride this platform to the right and kill bats while ducking along the way. Not too hard, but you must duck AND the last candle has a .: DAGGER :. in it. A Merman jumps by this candle and unless you're off to the left you may be 'tricked' into killing him and grabbing the dagger by accident (and losing your other sub-weapon into the pit). From here be careful of bats coming in from the right. I recommend jumping down to the next platform to make a Merman jump up and harmlessly fall down. From here stay on the left and kill any Bats and Merman that pop up (one Merman will pop up). Jump to the next platform and drop down to the last moving platform. Watch out for a Merman that pops up and the ones up above who may drop down until you're safe and can head up to the next screen. Up here head to the left and kill the two Bone Pillars. Watch out for axes from up above. To the right head up the stairs and WHIP THE RIGHT WALL. Kneel down if you have to. You can break it to reveal a .: 1-UP :. item! Hurrah! Head up now and to the left kill off the Axe Armor. Sub-weapons help. After him continue on and kill the two Bone Pillars you find. Continue on to the left to the next screen. Now this screen is important as it actually leads to a new stage, prompting the warning/info bar below: (- I M P O R T A N T -) Falling DOWN on this screen actually leads you to a NEW stage. Falling down leads to Stage 4' (Stage 4-ALT). For those going after the BEST ending you CANNOT fall down here! THIS is a prime spot to QUICK SAVE for those of you using emulation devices! (- I M P O R T A N T -) Now that we got that note out of the way, NOT falling down is a chore! This screen will have Medusa Heads whose sole purpose is to send you to Stage 4'. Head onward and get to the Bone Pillars to have the Medusa Heads start. Kill off the Bone Pillars and Medusa Heads and jump to where they were. A Skeleton will jump towards you once you do, so kill him quick! The candle above the next column has an .: AXE :. in it (whip it and let it sit there and disappear if you don't want it). Keep going and soon you'll see a GIANT stack of Bone Pillars. I like to get by them and use a Cross Item Crash to kill them all. Beware that this hits a candle to the left that has a .: ROAST BEEF :. in it, so quickly head over there if you want it. Or you could be NORMAL and just whip them. You don't have to kill all of them as you can just level them off and use their heads to step on, but beware of Medusa Heads! To the left past the meat is a column much higher than two lower ones in a row. Stay on it for a bit and let a skeleton jump to it and then jump away before jumping down (just to be safe). Past that is another stack of Bone Pillars. Another item crush is called for here if you can do it (it helps a ton) but otherwise take them out from either afar or get close so they don't knock you off into the pit below. Past that jump onto the next column and kill the Skeleton that jumps forward. From here it's just single jumps that you just need to watch out for Medusa Heads on. Continue left to the next screen. The next screen is a safe hallway full of candles. Of note here are the last two candles on the end. The next to last one has .: HOLY WATER :. and the one after that has the VALUABLE .: KEY :. (- I M P O R T A N T -) We NEED the KEY item to get the BEST ending. (- I M P O R T A N T -) With the key we are giving up our cool item crashes. You CAN use it as an item crash that costs 0 hearts, and lets you phase through attacks with good timing though. Head forward to reach the boss of this stage. +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Dyruhan - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: This guy is pretty tough. He's got a nice little | | variety of attacks and if all you have is the key you have virtually | | NO sub-weapon support. First of all, he holds his lance out in front | | of him at all times, meaning you have to stay your distance. Get just | | out of range of him and whip him to hurt him. His most dangerous move | | is his jump attack, but all of his attacks are dodgeable if you just | | don't get TOO greedy with your attacks. The next most important thing | | is to know that there are two candles in the boss area. The right one | | has a LARGE HEART in it while the left one has some ROAST BEEF which | | you simply MUST grab at one point or another. | | | | - Thrust: Dyruhan thrusts his lance at you. Best to duck if you don't | | want to be sent flying... | | | | - Jump/Downward Thrust: His most dangerous move, he will bend down a | | little bit and jump forward, pointing his lance downwards as he comes | | down. If you're too close to him he'll hit you as he goes up. If you | | can back up a bit when he crouches you can duck underneath this attack | | and be ready to hit him afterwards. | | | | - Ice Blades: Not a very threatening attack unless he is right on top | | of you. Dyruhan slams his lance down and ice blades begin sawing their | | way towards you. They stop after awhile, so you can just retreat back | | a ways to avoid them. | | | | - Head Patrol: Dyruhan stops and throws his head into the air. The head | | will come at you and try to hit you (I recommend somersaulting away). | | If it does hit you you will become cursed for awhile. | | | | - Ground Pound: Dyruhan throws his head up and then hits the ground. | | This makes chunks of earth (or part of the ceiling maybe?) fall down | | in a random pattern. You'll need to avoid the incoming pieces, | | preferrably while damaging Dyruhan at the same time! | | | | | | DEATH ATTACK! | | | | When the boss dies, it will throw its head high into the air. The | | head will explode and send out energy balls downwards. You can easily | | avoid this by getting far away or by getting at a 45 degree angle | | under the head and ducking. | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ ============================================================================== Stage IV: Abandoned Mine =====================================================================[DX04]=== | Playing: 'Cemetary' | ======================= OK, if you are going for the best ending you should have the KEY item in your sub-weapon slot. If so, good for you. Let's be sure to keep it, eh!? You can even try it out here as a WEAPON. Use it like a sub-weapon and let it hit the Zombies you find. It's like punching them! Head right and the higher candle you see has a .: DAGGER :. in it if you wish. Skip it and head on, going up at the end. Up here head left and get under the Skeleton and continue left. You'll face bats coming in at regular intervals on this screen (annoying). Head left to the end to see some stairs guarded by some Bone Pillars and a Skeleton. Boy, an Item Crash would be handy here. Oh well. Stand to the left of the Bone Pillars to get them to shoot that way so you can kill the Skeleton relatively painless (if you can avoid the Bats... you'll probably take a hit here). Once you're on top, head right. Stop at the pit to kill the Skeleton that comes and the Bat before jumping. Continue on killing bats and you'll have to kill another Bone Pillar stack and a Skeleton before reaching the end and moving to a new screen. Here you'll again be facing countless Bats. Head up and you'll see a spike platform. Past it is a new enemy: the RED AXE ARMOR. This guy is EXACTLY like the Axe Armor, he's just red. He has the same attacks. As sucky as it is, I recommend jumping down to his platform and fighting him there. It beats standing on the moving platform and getting raised or dropped into Bats. He will take 7 hits to down and as long as you can whip the axes you should be OK (Hope he doesn't use his charge move and whip fast!). Keep going and you'll fact more spike blocks with Bats coming in. The first one has a candle (moneybag) under it you can ignore. The next two are easy to jump on or over. The one after that has a candle (Large Heart) under it but the next one where the floor dips has a candle with some .: ROAST BEEF :. in it. You CAN grab it by whipping the candle as the spikes come down and then going under the spikes the MOMENT its safe to do so and jumping out of the pit quickly. If you don't time it perfectly you will take a hit, but even a hit is worth the meat if you need it (and if you don't it's best to ignore it!). Ride the next spike block up and kill any Bats before jumping down to the next screen. THIS screen is IMPORTANT. We can SAVE MARIA here. Also good news: the Bats are no longer coming! Bad news: they are replaced by the annoying new GHOST enemy. Ride the platform up and you'll see a Ghost come out on the right. Whip him and jump to the left! He takes TWO hits to down. Wait for him over here and kill him. Now, note the candle above where he spawned has the .: STOP WATCH :. item but we don't want it. Head up some more and you'll see a DOOR to the right. More Ghosts will spawn but make your way to that door (don't ride the platforms around, just use them to jump to the door). In here you will find MARIA! She will thank you for saving her and tell you that Annet is trapped somewhere else. ONE GIRL SAVED! Well on our way to the good ending! (- I M P O R T A N T -) We NEED to KEEP the KEY item still for the best ending! (- I M P O R T A N T -) We'll end up outside the door. KEEP THE KEY and start heading up some more. You'll re-encounter the Ghosts on your way up. Your BEST course of action here is to get up to the upper right set of moving platforms and ride those up to the candle which holds a .: ROSARY :. in it! You can knock off 4-5 Ghosts that way. If that's too tough, do your best to isoalte them and kill them off as they don't keep coming. Also note that the right candle even higher has a .: CROSS :. in it, but we still want to KEEP THE KEY. Keep on heading up to the exit to the upper left. In this room, the second candle has a .: DAGGER :. in it. I recommend whipping it and waiting for it to disappear. Behind it is a FLEAMAN. These infamous enemies are VERY spastic and jump around wildly, so get a good whip in quick! Past him is another new enemy: the RED SKELETON. These guys fall with one whip, but always get back up after a short amount of time. Take him out and stand to his left (but don't charge in!) so you can kill the two Fleamen that are behind him (you'll need to kill him again as well, no doubt!). There are more spike platforms here. Jump and ride the second one and STAY on it to kill another Red Skeleton and two more Fleamen jumping by him. Once they are dead move past him to find two more Fleaman! Just go slow and kill one at a time. Head down and kill another Red Skeleton and get past him (I would ignore the candle up above: it just has a moneybag) and kill yet another Fleaman before you can exit the screen. On this new screen you'll see a DOOR up above you. The higher candle here has an .: AXE :. sub-weapon but we don't want to grab it. With the door being here I think it's time for another Important Banner. (- I M P O R T A N T -) Opening the door with the key takes you to Stage 5' (5-ALT). We WANT to go to Stage 5' to SAVE ANNET for the BEST ending. (- I M P O R T A N T -) As you can see, if you want the BEST ending, you should go up and through the door above you to reach Stage 5'. No boss fight, no nothing. Simply the next stage. HOWEVER! For integrity and completeness' sake, let's use THIS SPACE right here to finish up THIS stage. You should move down to Stage 5' if you're going for the Best ending. Just scroll down... there ya' go. OK, onto completing this stage. Grab the axe if you wish and continue to the left. As you may have guessed, this stage's boss is in this next room! +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Minotaurusu - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: This is a VERY tough fight. It does get a bit | | easier with a couple of key facts. The Minotaur moves around quite a | | bit with his attacks, but having the AXE helps a lot. Like Dyruhan, | | you can't get too close to the Minotaur due to his axe sticking out, | | meaning you'll have to get in 1-2 quick hits and back off. Backing | | off is important though as you'll need space to dodge his attacks. | | The other SUPER important thing to know here is the items in the boss | | arena. For example, the ledge to the upper left near your starting | | position has some ROAST BEEF in it. VERY handy and will likely win you | | the fight. There is also a candle on the left side (at the top of the | | screen) with a LARGE HEART in it. In short, give the Minotaur some | | room, try and get in two quick hits when you attack (I do one whip | | standing and another ducking), grab the roast beef, and be ready for | | his attacks below to overcome the beast! | | | | - Thrust: The Minotaur thrusts his axe at you. Very basic and one good | | reason to give him his room after your quick attacks. | | | | - Guard: Every so often, the Minotaur will bring his axe back in a | | defensive posture, blocking your hits. Be sure to follow up with even | | more hits when he drops his guard as he is always vulnerable after. | | | | - Jump Slash: The Minotaur crouches slightly and jump slashes at you. | | He doesn't travel AWFUL far, so a backflip can likely save you with | | ease. Be aware of his axe suddenly pointing out again once he gets | | back up! | | | | - Rock Throw: I hate this move. The Minotaur reaches into the ground | | and throws 6-7 chunks of rock at you. It's a good idea to chuck an | | axe to protect your overhead. You can also retreat back a bit, but | | if you're too close to either wall it's awfully hard not to get hit. | | A good time to retaliate with an Item Crash. | | | | - Charge: The Minotaur gets real low and charges across the screen. | | This is hard to avoid but you can backflip over it if you face away | | and double jump. Note that the Minotaur gets stuck in the wall for | | several seconds, making for easy prey. Also be careful and retreat | | back further than normal once you get 2-3 hits in, as once he gets | | out and free he will immediately go into another move! | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ After defeating him grab the sphere. You'll find yourself in Stage 5 now, meaning that if this is the path you are following ============================================================================== Stage IV': Catacombs =====================================================================[DX4b]=== | Playing: 'Cemetary' | ======================= Yes, this is the same music as the regular Stage 4. Kinda lame. And you ended up falling huh? No big dead. We just can't get the best ending. We can still have fun killing stuff though! Head forward and you'll see some mud. Eck! New enemies appear out of the mud: MUDMEN. Pretty un-noteworthy. Use the higher platforms to avoid the mud and kill a Skeleton to the right. Before jumping to the next platform above another mud pit, wait for a Skeleton to jump down. The candle here has some .: HOLY WATER :. in it if you want it. Jump to the next higher ledge and a skeleton below should commit suicide. Jump down and before you jump again wait for another skeleton to jump at you so you can kill it! Keep going watching out for skeletons and staying out of the mud. At the end will be another Skeleton and two candles down in the mud area, the last of which has a .: STOP WATCH :. in it. Also, the jump here to the middle platform is best done while doing a backflip while facing off to the left! On this new screen be careful of crap falling down at you. Head to the right and kill the Skeletons you find. The first candle here has an .: AXE :. in it which would help killing the Skeleton and Red Axe Knight above you if you wished. Head up and to the left to a new screen. We have another mudpit area here, but this time Bats will constantly bother us. Cross the first pit but note the flipping blocks here. Cross by walking steadily. Below you is a moneybag in a candle. Continue left watching out for bats. Below THIS stretch is a LOT of candles, all money bags and hearts. Up top, continue to the left until you hit solid ground and see a candle up ahead. As you can tell by all of the flippable blocks, this is a hard candle to get. It should be: it has some .: ROAST BEEF :. in it. I like to hit it with a sub-weapon from the solid ground and go pick it up, otherwise you'll likely have to trek back to the right down below and start over. At the end of this section, jump over the Bat and continue up to the next screen. Up here to the right you'll find a UNIQUE enemy: the GIANT SKELETON. This guy takes SIXTEEN hits to fall, but he's a fun foe to fight. He can throw a giant bone and can lunge forward with the bone, as well as jump around. Stay a little ways away but not TOO far. Sub-weapons help here. Take him out and continue to the right to face a Skeleton Dragon. Watch out for his long neck reach and fireballs and take him out to head right to a new screen. We have another mud area here. A Bat will harass you as you enter the mud, and we MUST enter the mud to continue. The spike areas will force us to sink a bit, but we MUST do so to continue. Just don't sink TOO much and remember your jump is restricted in mud so you can get away with doing short jumps to keep yourself alive. The first candle here has a .: DAGGER :. in it if you want one. Keep going and watch out for any mudmen that show up. You'll reach a half-way point of dry ground soon. Past that keep going and duck under more spikes. After the second spike a Bat will be resting above. You can keep him resting by staying low enough. Keep going and soon you'll be at the end. The next screen is a staging area for the boss of this level. The lower right candle has a .: DAGGER :. in it. The other three candles have hearts. However, there is a hidden candle to the upper left that has a .: CROSS :. in it that I think you should grab! Carry on to face the boss of this Stage! +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Necromancer - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: This is a pretty hard, but fun, fight. The first | | thing you should know is that this boss actually has TWO forms, which | | sucks for us! The Necromancer floats around but is a big target, and | | there are plenty of platforms in this room for mobility. When you hit | | him, he will flash and zoom off across the screen away from where you | | are, but if you're on an upper platform that could mean you simply | | need to turn around and chuck another cross or whip him again (you | | can often "juggle" him between two spots like this. This is a LONG | | fight, so you should focus on not getting hit first and foremost. | | Check out his attacks below! | | | | FIRST FORM: | | | | - Skeleton Summon: The Necromancer will summon skeletons at regular | | intervals. These guys come out two at a time and walk around down | | below. More of an annoyance than a danger, except where mobility is | | involved. Not your primary concern. | | | | - Evil Spirit: The Necromancer will stop and summon an evil spirit that | | travels a little ways and stops on its own to split up. Two spheres | | will fire up at diagonal angles while a third, bigger sphere tries to | | home in on you. If you touch these spheres or get hit by one you'll | | take damage and be cursed! | | | | Once you drain the first life bar the Necromancer will regain his | | strength and gain his second form! He doesn't float off when he gets | | hit in this form, which actually makes him much easier to kill! He | | also gains two new attacks (see below). Go sub-weapon crazy here and | | he'll be dead in no time flat! | | | | SECOND FORM: | | | | - Mudmen Summon: The Necromancer will summon mudmen to walk around! | | There will be quite a few of them too, making the entire ground area | | below a danger. However he does nothing else during this move, so | | go get him! | | | | - Tombstones: This attack is the most dangerous. The Necromancer will | | make 4-5 tombstones rotate around him (You can get in 2-3 hits while | | he summons them!). These not only shield him, but he'll also throw | | them at you! You can whip them to destroy them, but getting them all | | can be tough! | | | | | | DEATH ATTACK! | | | | When the boss dies, it will crumble into a pile of rubble. Stay | | away! This rubble will explode, sending small shards of rock blasting | | outward. By retreating to the far side of the screen and getting on | | a platform you can avoid it with ease. | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ After defeating the evil Necromancer we will continue on to Stage 5! ============================================================================== Stage V: Inner Sanctum =====================================================================[DX05]=== | Playing: 'Opus 13' | ====================== Watch out for the Red Axe Armor and head right. The second candle has a .: DAGGER :. in it. There are also two birds off to the right that are annoying! Some subweapons are in order here to not take any damage! Once you get to the right you can kill the Axe Armor with ease and continue. This next screen just plain SUCKS. On this screen Bats will constantly come in from the left and right (and to the left you can find another .: DAGGER :. if you want one). However, these Bats carry FLEAMEN and drop them down! Once you walk to the right for aways, Bats will start to come in from the left more and can fly WAY to the right before dropping their Fleamen! They'll even drop it ON you: they just don't card! NO PERSONAL SPACE! AUGH! I highly recommend using a libral amount of crosses here and KEEP MOVING. At the end you'll see some stairs leading up with a Fleamen at the top. Once you take HIM out you can continue up to the next screen. THIS screen is another pain in the butt. Jump and whip to kill the Crow, and then head up to the right. Now, as you ascend ALL the blocks will start to crumble! In fact, they can just downright leave you no way to continue if you let them ALL fall. If this happens to you, you can go down the stairs again at the bottom and come back up to have all the blocks reset. Head up and note that the first candle here has some .: HOLY WATER :. if you want it. The rest of the candles are all hearts, but given the crumbling blocks you are better leaving them all. Quickly get to the next vertical moving block and head up. More Crows await you, so take them out with sub-weapons if you can. Keep quickly moving on to higher vertical platforms, chucking crosses to cover your movements. At the very top the blocks don't break so you can get to the upper left and continue. You'll now be in a screen with THREE Spear Guards. Here, if you have the hearts, I'd recommend an Item Crash or two to give yourself breathing room. Otherwise you have to fight the Spear Guard to the left while the one below tries to jab up at you! Or at the very least use liberal subweapons here. Get the other Spear Knights to the left before going down as well so you can kill them easier. Once they are all dead you can continue downwards. Down here you'll meet a new enemy: the SWORD LORD. You want to give this guy space as he can slash forwards quickly. The Cross is GREAT here for its multiple hits, but if you're doing whip only stay out of reach and only whip once per attack. He can also thrust forwards, but you can duck under that attack and retaliate. He'll take six hits to kill. Kill him and head down to face another Sword Lord to the left. You'll need to kill him and yet ANOTHER Sword Lord after him! Once they are both dead walk up the stairs and you'll see two sets of stairs heading up. Before taking any of them, go to the left and down those stairs to find a candle with some .: ROAST BEEF :. in it! (-NOTE-) You can go up and come back down to this candle for MORE meat should you need it! Now head up and head up the RIGHT STAIRCASE. Here you'll need to avoid the Spear Guard above and kill a Ghost that shows up to your right but you can whip the LEFT WALL in this small area to find a rare .: 1 UP :. item! The candle here has an .: AXE :. as well. Head back down now and watch out for the Sword Lord's swipes and go up the LEFT STAIRCASE (grab the Roast Beef again if you need it). Up here you'll be in a bad spot: A Spear Guard above you (two, actually) and one to the right. Kill the one on the right and then bait the upper ones to move either to the left or right (I got them to the left and was able to climb up and leave them behind). To the right you'll need to kill that Ghost again. There's another Spear Guard to the right past the jump that is best killed with sub-weapons (it would SUCK to fall at this point). Continue up to a new screen afterwards. Head up the stairs here and kill the stupid Crow with a ranged weapon or tempt him to come on over and then kill him. Jump past the next two gaps and after the second jump you'll jump over another crow. Take it out and then you will need to kill an Axe Armor. Just stand to the right and take him out since only his low throws can hit you. Past him is another Axe Armor whose high throws are the only things that can get you! The candle past this second Axe Armor has a .: STOP WATCH :. in it, but beware! The blocks will start crumbling! The next candle has a large heart, then some .: HOLY WATER :., then another heart, then an .: AXE :.! As you can see, if you want to keep, say, a CROSS, you're better off not whipping ANYTHING here! Continue to the right and jump over the crow to continue to the next area, which houses this stage's boss! +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Lypuston - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: Ah, the wolf-man! This is a neat fight (and a | | HARD one without subweapons). Lypuston is EXTREMELY mobile, which is | | the challenge of this fight. He starts every fight by dropping in the | | middle of the area, meaning you can get in 2-3 hits easy as the fight | | starts. Of course you COULD just use three Grand Cross Item Crashes | | and end the entire fight, but what fun is that!? Lypuston's most | | dangerous attacks are his kicks and spins from the floor and ceiling. | | It's pretty much impossible to tell exactly where he is going to land | | so stay mobile and don't be afraid to get next to him after he lands | | as a whip or two will send him recoiling. | | | | Be generous with sub-weapons and stay mobile. Get familiar with his | | attacks below and if you do have enough hearts an Item Crash at the | | end can do wonders. | | | | - Punch Combo: Lypuston does a quick punch combo. This has ZERO range | | and to get hit by it you'd have to be right next to him. He often | | does it multiple times in a row too, so feel free to whip him when | | does it! | | | | - Energy Throw: Lypuston gathers energy in his hand and throws it! It | | can travel up or down. If you're a whip's length away you can often | | just duck to have it miss you. This attack has good range to it. | | | | - Slide: Lypuston can slide. This is actually one of his most dangerous | | moves as it will often hit you twice at least! He crouches down and | | stays crouched for awhile before doing it though, so you can tell | | when to watch out! | | | | - Jump Kick: Lypuston's most sporadic attack. He will often climb the | | walls and ceiling and then jump at you. He's FAST and can easily get | | in a cheap hit, but if you stay mobile you have a good shot at not | | getting hit. | | | | - SUPER Jump Kick: Lypuston does this attack when he's low on health! | | He basically goes crazy and starts bouncing off all the walls! To be | | safe here, you need to predict what angles he will come off at and | | position yourself to be safe. Being out in the open helps. I'd also | | throw sub-weapons about to try and get in some hits as well. If you | | are about to be hit, use an Item Crash to turn the tables. This may | | even kill him as he only uses this when he's low on health. | | | | | | DEATH ATTACK! | | | | When the boss dies, it will jump up into the air and come smashing | | down into the middle of the screen. You want to get to one side or the | | other. Chunks of rock will fly up as well, so do your best to jump | | through them (this can be hard to avoid!). | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ After defeating the poor man you'll be taken to Stage 6! Onward! ============================================================================== Stage V': Underground Lake =====================================================================[DX5b]=== | Playing: 'Picture of a Ghost Ship' | ====================================== Such a long soundtrack name! Anyway, if you're going for the best ending THIS is where you want to be! Congratulations all around if you are here! This area is also really neat! Head forward and pause at every gap to see if a Merman will show up. After killing or avoiding three of them you'll soon come to a new enemy. The water at the bottom will bubble up and the new enemy, the WATER SKULL, will emerge. These guys are more annoying than dangerous and go down easy. Kill the first that comes and continue, as they don't stop. Jump up on top of a high ledge and from here you have a choice: stay up or go down. The only real difference in the paths is that the first candle on the higher path has an .: AXE :. in it while the first candle on the lower path has a .: CROSS :.. You could even do both if you wanted. Avoid and kill the Skulls and Merman and to the right is a SKELETON DRAGON. These things are annoying and this is a good Item Crash opportunity. They attack by spitting fireballs (which you can SEE go up their neck, which is cool!) and by just extending their ultra-long neck out to hit you! On the next screen jump to the far right and kill the Merman. Watch out for the Merman below you jumping up, but he'll get rid of himself. Head down and you'll see a moving platform below. We need to ride that as falling her is instant death. Water Skulls will start to come at you from the right as well. You want to drop down to the platform as it is heading LEFT. You can whip the candle here for an .: INVISIBILITY POTION :. as well, making sure you get to the right safely. Here the most annoying thing will be the set of Skulls that come out from underneath you. Do your best to get up on the above platform and jump over to the right as the candle here has a .: ROSARY :.. After that drop down and jump to the left to continue, but watch out for the spikes on the ledge above you! In the upper left candle is an .: AXE :. weapon but continue up and reach the upper right to continue on. Ok, PAUSE the game. Now, this screen is tricky! You need to be FAST here as the screen scrolls upwards, the bottom filling with water. As you can guess, this is a race against time. Unpause and quickly head to the right, jumping to make yourself faster. Get on the high ledge on the right and jump to the left. Now quickly WALK to the left as there are spikes on the ceiling! You'll notice a Water Skull following you but ignore him! At the far left get on the top ledge and jump to the right (THIS jump is tricky; get to the very edge and whip-jump!). The first candle here has an .: INVISIBILITY POTION :. that is pretty much MANDATORY to nab. With it you can walk to the right and destroy the Skeleton Dragon you find! The water stops rising at this point, so you are SAFE! Good job! Jump up and kill the Red Skeleton. Behind him is one more Skeleton Dragon we need to kill. An Item Crash and sub-weapons help a lot here, since you can't jump and the Skeleton will always bother your backside. Kill him off and continue to the next room. This next room is VERY IMPORTANT! (- I M P O R T A N T -) ANNET is close by! To SAVE her, get down on the lower left platform by the water spout and WHIP the water spout until it breaks/stops. The water will now lower! Head downwards and at the bottom of the screen go left and you will see a scene with Annet and you'll save her! We have now completed the steps needed to get the BEST ending and can now finish the game normally! Congrats! (- I M P O R T A N T -) Once you are done with your scene with Annet, climb back up and continue to the next screen. We are now on a cool-looking aqueduct. This is a pretty easy area: walk forward killing Merman and watch out for Water Skulls. Note that the THIRD CANDLE, where the aqueduct dips a bit, has an .: AXE :. it in (If you don't want it, duck and whip the Merman behind it to save yourself some grief). The end of the aqueduct is near. Pause at the gap and kill a Merman, the do a jump-whip to the other side to kill a CROW and be safe while landing. The upper left block also hides some .: ROAST BEEF :. which you likely found while killing the crow! Hurrah! Jump to the next aqueduct, avoiding a Merman (let him go first!). The first candle here has a .: DAGGER :. in it. There is another Crow further on a sub-weapon should take out. Past him the very next candle will have a rare .: STOP WATCH :. in it if you wish. Keep going and you'll deal with more Water Skulls and Merman. Just take it slow and it is EASY. At the end jump off the aqueduct and head right to reach the BOSS of this stage! +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Water Dragon - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: This can be a very tough fight if you come in | | and don't know the Dragon's moves. There's also no items to help you | | out here. Regardless though, the Water Dragon is pretty simple. He's | | really only got three moves. First, take note of your screen. It's | | ALL flat with the exception of the left-hand side. Standing over here | | is probably the key to winning this battle. For starters, you can | | outright avoid his slither move! This perch also gives you the height | | you need to hit him when he does his fireball move (important if you | | have the cross, not so much if you have the axe). | | | | Standing in the middle makes it TOO easy to get hit. Even the wrong | | positioning for his leap move will make you take a hit, so you may as | | well use the left ledge. Over here you can chuck sub-weapons like mad | | but you can also semi-foretell what the Water Dragon will do next just | | by the simple fact that he almost NEVER does the slither move twice | | in a row, giving you a good chance of knowing when he'll use his leap | | or fireball attacks. With that said keep at him and use some good | | dodging to win this battle! | | | | - Leap: The Water Dragon's most common attack, he'll leap in an arching | | motion. Aim for his head when he does so (which is why random sub | | weapons can be good in this fight). Note that you won't get hurt by | | his body when it's in the BACKGROUND, but once it comes forward you | | can get hurt! An impossible move to dodge if he leaps directly over | | you, so do your best to put some weapons in the air and be on the move | | a bit. | | | | - Fireballs: The Water Dragon will raise up and pause on the screen. | | His head is too high to hit or whip without an axe or being on the | | left ledge, though. He will then spit out four fireballs; three out | | in front of him and one down underneat (in case you think of standing | | under him!). You can destroy these fireballs as well. If you can hurt | | him before he spits the fireballs, he will go back down without | | attacking! | | | | - Slither: The Water Dragon will slither along the ground, wrapping | | around the ground as he goes. You can avoid this entirely by hanging | | out on the left. However you can also avoid this by good dodging as | | since he is wrapping around the ground there are safe spots that you | | can stand in. Beware, his body MOVES forward so you need to move | | with him or jump to a new safe spot. It's HARD to hit his head when | | he is like this, but subweapons help. | | | | | | DEATH ATTACK! | | | | When the boss dies, it will fall down in the water. You, however, | | want to jump back and forth across the screen as the Dragon will come | | up one last time wherever you are (or WERE, hopefully) in one last | | attempt to smash you before dying for good! | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ After killing the beast we can continue on to Stage 6 like normal! ============================================================================== Stage VI: Clock Tower =====================================================================[DX06]=== | Playing: 'Beginning' | ======================== Another CLASSIC Castlevania tune. OK, we're in the clock tower now. The notoriously difficult area of almost every Castlevania game! *Gulp* The first screen here is not bad. Kill the Red Skeleton and jump to the next ledge. A crow will fly underneath, so kill it as it comes back. Continue on and keep the Red Skeletons down as you head upwards. You need to head up now. A crow is patrolling up above. Bait him to fly off to the right by jumping up and quickly head up and destroy the Bone Pillars. You can kill the crow easier with this higher perch. Continue up and kill the next set of Bone Pillars. There are two Crows higher up. Try and jump up to see and bait them down as this is a good place to kill them (an Axe or a Cross helps a lot). Continue up and kill the Axe Armor you find. It may take a while but its pretty safe. Once he's dead continue to the next screen. You'll have to navigate some constantly falling bricks here. Now this area is EXTREMELY easy to get through. There IS a piece of roast beef to the FAR right, but it is dangerous to get to so I don't recommend going for it unless you MUST. To get through this screen, simply jump to the rock column here and keep jumping straight up until you can get to the ledge on the upper left. The exit here is to the left. If you MUST go to the right I recommend just going down the lower path. A Spear Guard is on the upper ledge, so be careful. Bats are constantly coming out as well, so be careful of them too! Head to the lower right and you'll see there are a TON of rocks falling down here. This area can be tricky to navigate. To start, wait for a bat to come and kill it, then jump on the first rock column. Jump STRAIGHT UP and get to the left higher platform. Now, from here you can jump right to a higher rock as it is coming down and then lower to another rock in the second column (a TRICKY jump without this height advantage). Now you can just continue right and watch out for bats to reach the safe zone. The upper right candle here has some .: ROAST BEEF :. in it. Far too dangerous to go get, if you ask me. Now head up and be careful of the Spear Guard. You can kill him easily from the right. Keep heading up and you'll soon have to use a gear on the left to continue to the right. Another Spear Guard is above you as well. This area can be BEYOND annoying if the Spear Guard STAYS on the left. I used an Item Crash here as he wouldn't move and let me UP. Also, Bats start to come out (one comes out as you jump to the right, so be ready and jump whip). Keep heading up using the lift and there will be a gear to the right followed by a Spear Guard. DO NOT fight him, just jump on the gear and get on the stairs above him. Continue upwards and to the upper right you'll come to a new screen. This area is DEADLY annoying (a good place to save state if you can!). You're above a pit with plenty of spinning gears. Jump to the first gear which is safe and a Ghost will come out. Stay on this gear and kill it. Jump to the next lift and scoot to the right edge of it. This will make another Ghost come out. Kill it over to the left or on the lift. Now, you'll have to get past two gears rotating to the right: a big one and a smaller one. Past the small one is a lift. The idea here is to get on the second gear and jump to the lift when you can, but KEEP JUMPING on the gear (straight UP) as it can dump you into the pit in a split second! There's also a candle above the first gear that has a .: DAGGER :. in it you should avoid. Once you're on the lift safely jump to the next gear. This candle also has a .: CROSS :. in it. Here a Red Axe Armor will be waiting for you. He LOVES to charge you can can strike you down into the pit, so be ready to turn away from him and backflip if he does his pause move! You can move on to the next screen from here instead of fighting as well! In this area we have to head UP, but Medusa Heads will bother us the whole time. Kill one and head up. The first candle you see will have an .: AXE :. in it if you want it (not a bad choice, but I like the Cross). Keep heading up using the gears and reach the lift. The candle on the left-side of the lift has some .: POT ROAST :.. Keep heading up and you'll reach a safe spot on the left. There's a candle rather high up with a .: ROSARY :. in it but don't bother grabbing it as you can just reach the right lift and continue on. This next room is the room before the boss. All the candles except the top left one in here are hearts (the top left one is a .: DAGGER :.). You can also find a .: 1 UP :. by whipping the upper right wall! (- I M P O R T A N T -) Now, before going to face the boss let me just tell you that HOW you've progressed through the game will determine WHICH boss you face! That's right! If you've SAVED Annet you will face none other than DEATH! If you DIDN'T SAVE Annet you will face Carmilla! Check below for BOTH boss fights! (- I M P O R T A N T -) If you SAVED Annet: +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Death - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: And here we have Death, classic boss of the | | Clock Tower. Like the Necromancer, Death has two forms. Unlike the | | Necromancer, he has one life bar (hurrah!). Death's first form has a | | blue cloak and doesn't do much aside from... float around and try to | | run into you. Oh and scythes! Those are a given! His floating around | | is annoying, but he does so in big, sweeping motions so you'll soon | | catch onto his movements. If he DOES hit you, you'll be cursed as | | well! So for the first form avoid scythes and keep hurting him! | | Chucking copious amounts of crosses helps a ton of course! Do NOT do | | any Item Crashes, you'll want to save those for the second form. | | | | FIRST FORM: | | | | - Scythes: A classic Death attack, scythes will randomly appear on the | | screen and head towards you. They do stay in place for awhile before | | moving, so you have a few split seconds to decide what to do. Using | | subweapons helps a ton to keep them off your back, as does moving | | past them and making them attack where you WERE. | | | | Once you drain about 60% of his life, he'll stop moving around and | | gather energy. He'll then zoom off and appear in the middle of the | | area with GREEN robes. He's MUCH more attack oriented now and boosts | | three new skills as well as continuing the above scythe attack! | | | | SECOND FORM: | | | | - Scythe Swipe: Death will swing his scythe at you. Your whip is just | | barely longer. Death can either do a combo swing or swing in front | | and behind himself in a big circle. Stay out of reach! | | | | - Spike Attack: Death's ninja-like move! He throws out 8-9 spikes in a | | semi-circle that slowly travel towards you! You can destroy them, but | | there are quite a few. A cross or other subweapon help a ton here in | | keeping you safe! | | | | - Scythe Spin: Death's most dangerous attack! He jumps into the air | | and comes down at you, spinning in a circle with his scythe out! This | | move is HARD do dodge given the little space you're in. When you see | | him do this, retaliate with an Item Crash if you can to stay safe and | | make him pay! | | | | | | DEATH ATTACK! | | | | When the boss dies, the giant scythe will fly up and fall down. Not | | very dangerous as long as you don't go near it! | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ If you DIDN'T SAVE Annet: +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Carmilla - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: Once you get to the Clock Tower, you'll see | | Annet in the middle as a SKULL comes down on top of her. Afterwards | | she will be gone, but Carmilla will begin her attack! | | | | Well crap! Well, if it makes you feel better, I think Carmilla is | | easier than Death! In short, she has three attacks as well as moves | | around a LOT. Most of her attacks are easy to dodge if you know what | | you are doing and subweapons help a ton in the fight. Carmilla will | | take multiple hits in a row which is nice but will also move across | | the screen when she gets hit if she's on either side of the screen | | and can get away with it. Keep up a strong attack and avoid the three | | attacks below and you'll easily come out on top! | | | | - Fire Eyes: The eyeballs turn into fire and come at you! They aren't | | very good with their homing ability but they don't stick together | | very well either. Pretty darn easy to avoid. | | | | - Energy Eyes: The eyes get charged with energy and rotate around each | | other. They stick together and home in a lot better than the fire eyes | | but that just makes them even easier to dodge. This attack should also | | be pretty easy to avoid. | | | | - Lighting Eyes: Carmilla's best attack! The eyes hover in the air and | | try to get above you, followed by them shooting lighting down! They | | try to get above you but may also stay apart as well if you're moving | | around a lot. You should try and tempt the eyes over to one side or | | the other and then move into the platform to make them miss you. Do | | that three times and this attack will be done. | | | | | | DEATH ATTACK! | | | | When the boss dies, it will fall down in a fiery mess. The eyes, | | however, will hang around. They'll spark that energy around them and | | slowly come down before exploding themselves. Very easy to avoid. | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ Once you are done beating the boss we'll end up at the final stage! Stage 7! ============================================================================== Stage VII: Castle Keep =====================================================================[DX07]=== | Playing: 'Den' | ================== The final stage! Let's do this! Head up the stairs and to the next screen. Up here grab the candles and kill any Zombies that confront you before moving to the next screen. Here, you'll see a giant stack of Bone Pillars. Take them out and then take out the two Bone Pillars after them. Up the stairs are two more Bone Pillars to take out (Grab the candles!). I guess this was really the Bone Pillar room! Kill the Skeleton Dragon in this room and head down (feel free to use a few sub-weapons as the Dragon drops a few hearts!). Down here you'll see a Were Skeleton. Haven't faced many of these in this game. Drop down after his bone throw and kill him off and head right to the next screen. Here we need to head UP. Jump on the lift and into the right cubby. Medusa Heads will start showing up now. Ride the right lift up and in the next right cubby whip the candle for a .: ROSARY :.. Head further up and jump into the left cubby now. (-NOTE-) You can walk from the left cubby to the left to reach the screen we're headed to, but we need to get higher still. You can walk right from the right cubby to go back to the Skeleton Dragon room, but why would you want to do that?!? OK, we need to keep heading up. Use the right lift heading further up and jump into the left cubby opposite the Spear Guard. No need to fight him if you don't want to. Head further up and into the next left cubby watching out for the spike ceiling. The higher Spear Guard here is guarding a candle with some .: ROAST BEEF :. in it if you need it. Head to the left when you are ready. Here we need to use the two horizontal platforms to continue on. The key to doing this easily is dropping down to the first platform and getting the candle on the way as it has an .: INVINCIBILITY POTION :. in it! Now HURRY and get over to the far left platform ASAP! You should be able to get over there with the potion still working and kill any Medusa Heads and the Axe Armor that's over there. Head left into the next room. In the next room you'll find ALL OF THE GAME'S SUBWEAPONS along with plenty of large hearts! As you may have guessed, the epic battle against Dracula is coming up. Get ready, warrior! +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Dracula - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: Here we are, about to put the Prince of Evil | | out of commission once again. The BIGGEST threat in this fight is, | | by far, the arena! Holes EVERYWHERE! Footing is of utmost importance | | in this fight. Dracula has two forms to get through, each with their | | own health bar. His first for is pretty classic with Dracula doing | | what he does best: teleporting and shooting stuff at you! Read up on | | his attacks below to get to know them. What I like to do is stand on | | the high column to the right of the throne. From here you have a GOOD | | vantage point and can whip him easily two spaces either way (it is | | easy to get down to the left column if he appears where you are too!). | | Note that to hurt him you MUST whip his head and you MUST wait until | | he is fully materialized onto the screen (don't whip TOO early). His | | first form attacks are very easy to dodge but killing this form does | | take time. If you can and want an easy win, save 75+ hearts for the | | second form. I should also really note that to the FAR LEFT of this | | arena is a candle with some ROAST BEEF in it. I'd recommend saving it | | for the final fight though, when you're likely to need it more! | | | | FIRST FORM: | | | | - Fireballs: The classic fireball attack: Dracula pulls his cape back | | and shoots a wall of fireballs. You can jump over these if you are | | on a higher column. You can also whip and destroy them. If you're | | using the column I suggested you will never be threatened by this | | attack. | | | | - Meteors: Another classic. Dracula fires off two large meteors off at | | you. This attack is also known as 'Dark Inferno'. Anyway, one meteor | | gets fired up high while one gets fired up low. These can be hard to | | dodge on my platform of choice UNLESS you use the backflip skill to | | flip to the left or right columns, then they are easy to dodge. You | | could also get lower and duck or jump over them, depending on where | | Dracula fires from. Also remember you can duck and get hit without | | getting flung about! | | | | Once you take off his first life bar, Dracula will transform into a | | LARGE beast! He's much easier to hit in this form given how utterly | | big he is and he doesn't teleport around either. He still only has | | two attacks and avoiding them is ALL about positioning. If you don't | | feel like a fair fight, you can use 75+ hearts and the GRAND CROSS | | ITEM CRASH over and over to finish the game. However if you don't | | feel like being cheap chucking crosses will help you a TON. Remember | | that you have meat to the far left and you can duck if you're going | | to take a hit so you don't fall into a hole. Keep chucking crosses | | and position yourself to avoid the below attacks and you can come out | | the victor! | | | | SECOND FORM: | | | | - Fireballs: Beast Dracula will float up in the air and shoot two VERY | | LARGE fireballs down at you. These can be destroyed, but you must whip | | when they are both in front of you. You can also bait the fireballs | | into aiming for one area and then backing up a bit and jumping over | | them. And of course with a steady stream of crosses you'll likely | | never even have the fireballs show up (just aim for his hands where | | they come from). | | | | - Energy Wave: You KNOW this one is coming when Beast Dracula lands. He | | will then charge up and shoot out an energy beam. It starts out TALL, | | but ends up shrinking. The only way to avoid it is to get to a lower | | column and duck! | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ Once you are victorious you will see one of several endings depending on who you saved (naturally). Read on for a brief description of each of the game's endings: (- S P O I L E R S -) BEST ENDING - Saved Maria and Annet We see Dracula perish as the sun rises and Richter looks onward. We then see Richter holding Annet as Maria looks at them while the credits roll! BAD ENDING - Saved Maria We see Dracula perish as the sun rises and Richter looks onward. We then see Richter holding Maria while Annet look on from the background, symbolizing that she was never found while the credits roll. WORST ENDING - Save no one We see Dracula perish as the sun rises and Richter looks onward. We then see Richter sitting on a horse while looking back at a village while the credits role. CONGRATS on beating Dracula X! I hope you enjoyed this guide! Remember that a REAL PERSON wrote this and feel free to come say "Hi!" to me on Facebook! You KNOW I'm a huge Castlevania fan! ============================================================================== Bosses ===================================================================[DX-BOS]=== Here you will find a recap of all the game's bosses. Handy if you just want to know about a boss without reading through all of this "walkthrough" nonsense... Stage 1: +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Cerberus - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: Ah, Cerberus, the mythical guardian of hell. | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ Stage 2: +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Phantom Bat - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: Here we have a giant bat, a staple Castlevania | | boss. | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ Stage 3: +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Dyruhan - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: This guy is pretty tough. | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ Stage 4: +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Minotaurusu - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: This is a VERY tough fight. | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ Stage 4': +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Necromancer - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: This is a pretty hard, but fun, fight. | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ Stage 5: +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Lypuston - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: Ah, the wolf-man! | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ Stage 5': +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Water Dragon - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: This can be a very tough fight if you come in | | and don't know the Dragon's moves. | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ Stage 6: Save Annet: +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Death - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: And here we have Death, classic boss of the | | Clock Tower. | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ Don't Save Annet: +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Carmilla - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: Once you get to the Clock Tower, you'll see | | Annet in the middle as a SKULL comes down on top of her. | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ Stage 7: +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | Boss Battle - Dracula - Boss Battle | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ | | | - General Information: Here we are, about to put the Prince of Evil | | out of commission once again. | | | +----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+ ============================================================================== Passwords ===================================================================[DX-PAS]=== Here you can find all the passwords for the game.
