* Each character has three quotes that they can say when chosen at the select screen. * If a character is listed as the subject of a quote, that means that the quote MAY be used in a matchup against him or her. Many characters will have more than one possible quote. Naturally, each character has several quotes that they can use against everyone. * Many characters, especially those that are protagonists in the series, have a quote that they sometimes use whenever they fight a villain. Such quotes are listed as "vs. evil". The characters considered evil include Dracula, Death, Carmilla, Golem (poor thing) and Cornell (even poorer thing). Similarly, some villainous quotes are specifically used against protagonists, which I label as "vs. good". This refers to Trevor, Grant, Sypha, Alucard, Simon, Maria, Shanoa, Eric and Aeon. * When a character fights him or herself, the appropriate dialogue occurs 100% of the time. It consists of two quotes, one from each party, and always in the order listed. The win quote is also guaranteed. * For everyone except Aeon, Story Mode works as follows: - An opening sequence - A conversation and battle with Aeon - Two random battles - A conversation and storyline battle - A random battle - A monster battle - A conversation and storyline battle - Two random battles - A conversation and storyline battle. Once you've beaten the game with the initial thirteen characters, you unlock True Story Mode, which adds another conversation and battle with Aeon, a boss fight against the Time Reaper, and an ending sequence. The random battles are chosen from the list of characters who don't get conversations with your character, with the exceptions of Death and Dracula. The usual quotes are used here. Each storyline battle has a quote for your character's win and loss, and these occur without exception during the appropriate outcome. CHARACTERS i. Grant Danasty ii. Shanoa iii. Eric Lecarde iv. He once partnered with a vampire hunter of House Belmont to face down the mighty Dracula. Upon Dracula's defeat, Grant devoted himself to rebuilding the towns and villages the vampire's demons had razed. One day, a year later, Grant awoke from a strange vertigo to find himself in an unfamiliar place... BATTLE 1: Aeon: Right on time. Welcome to the time rift. Grant: Time what? The hell you talkin' about? Aeon: This is where you'll find what you desire. But first, there are many trials you must pass. Grant: Desire... Sounds like I ain't gotta choice. Aeon: My name is Aeon. Shall we begin the first trial? AFTER LOSS Aeon: You must be stronger to find what you seek. AFTER WIN Aeon: The road is now open. Search for that which you long for. BATTLE 4: Grant: Friend or foe?! AFTER LOSS Golem: Love is fighting? Then me understand love. AFTER WIN Grant: Yep, love is war, pal... If only I'd fought for her... BATTLE 7: Grant: Sypha?! Sypha: Who are you? Grant: Ah... so you're from a time before you met me or Trevor... Sypha: What are you mumbling about? Who are you? Grant: All right, you ready for this? I'm your future husband. Sypha: D-don't be ridiculous! I-I'll see you prove it then! AFTER LOSS Sypha: If that's the extent of your power, I would never choose you. AFTER WIN Grant: I'm sorry, Sypha... I shouldn't have lied. BATTLE 10: Grant: Trevor? Trevor: Grant, it's been too long! Sypha and I sorely missed you at our wedding. Grant: Sorry, old friend. But to see her wed to another... Trevor: So... that's the way of it... You judge yourself more deserving of her than I. Prove it then! AFTER LOSS Trevor: Enough? Stand if your blood still boils, else this matter is settled. AFTER WIN Grant: I hope you make Sypha happy. I truly mean that... finally. BATTLE 11: Aeon: Right on time. You must be the chosen one. Grant: Well, besides having my heart ripped out, guess I did all right. Aeon: Time heals all wounds. However, the hour of our escape approaches. Grant: Yeah? All right then. What do I gotta do? Aeon: We have just gained access to the door leading to our enemy. Grant: Okay, yeah...? Aeon: Which leads to our final dilemma... The door will allow only a single being to enter. Grant: So who fights and who stays? Either way's fine with me. Aeon: Excellent. Then we shall decide by combat. AFTER LOSS Aeon: You are not the one. Then I must go myself... AFTER WIN Grant: Well, guess that settles that... BATTLE 12: Time Reaper: I come from ten thousand years hence. Grant: Time to take care of business. ENDING: Thus the rift in time was mended, and all were returned to their respective eras. Grant once again threw himself body and soul into the revival of the ruined towns. Simon) (vs. Dracula) "My duty is complete. The light of peace will scatter the shadows." --- STORY MODE: OPENING: In the early 19th century, an organization known as the Order of Ecclesia developed a method of forging energy into magical figures called Glyphs. But only one among them possessed the ability to absorb and command this power: Shanoa. When the Order finally discovered the means to destroy Dracula, a traitor among them made off with the secret, along with Shanoa's memory. At the command of her Order, Shanoa was pursuing this traitor when a strange man appeared... BATTLE 1: Aeon: Right on time. Welcome to the time rift. Shanoa: What is this place? I have a task I must complete. Aeon: This is an alternate universe. You must pass a series of trials in order to gain passage out. Shanoa: Is that so... Then it appears I have no choice. BATTLE 4: Shanoa: Such agility... You're no ordinary man. Grant: Noticed that, did ya? I'm the guy who trounced Dracula. Name's Grant Danasty. Shanoa: You defeated Dracula? Then I request a match with you. Grant: Whoa whoa now, listen. I mean, I had a little help from my friend Trevor... Shanoa: I wish to measure my strength. Come, let's begin. [Note: Grant's voice says "pal" in the fourth line instead of "friend".] AFTER LOSS Grant: And I guess that's that. You can get an autograph later. AFTER WIN Shanoa: Surely Dracula is not so easily defeated... BATTLE 7: Shanoa: A little girl, in a place like this? Maria: Little...! This "little girl" beat Dracula, ya know. Shanoa: You defeated Dracula? Maria: Yep, it's true. I beat him with Richter. We did it together. Shanoa: If that's true, I ask you grant me a battle. Maria: I, uh... I guess that'd be okay. Well, whenever you're ready. AFTER LOSS Maria: Well? Believe me now? AFTER WIN Shanoa: Could it be I already have the strength to defeat Dracula? BATTLE 10: Shanoa: That whip... You're from the lost dynasty of hunters? Simon: If you know this whip then you must know of House Belmont. What do you mean by "lost"? Shanoa: Your clan completely vanished. That's why we sought out the power to stop Dracula. Simon: I know nothing of your tale, but your power to vanquish Dracula -- that interests me. Shanoa: Very well. Let's see if my strength is enough to carry the day. AFTER LOSS Simon: You lack the guts to face Dracula. AFTER WIN Shanoa: I have the strength to challenge Dracula. Now I'm sure of it. BATTLE 11: Aeon: Right on time. You must be the chosen one. Shanoa: Are we still trapped here? Aeon: There is just one last thing. Shanoa: What is it? Aeon: You must defeat a final enemy. A visitor from ten thousand years in the future. Shanoa: Leave him to me. Aeon: There is one problem. We will have but a single chance to defeat him. Shanoa: I must prove my worth to you, is that it? Very well, let's begin. Aeon: Clever girl. Yes, let the test commence. AFTER LOSS Aeon: You are not the one. Then I must go myself... AFTER WIN Shanoa: When I said I could defeat Dracula, it was no idle boast. BATTLE 12: Time Reaper: I come from ten thousand years hence. Shanoa: Darkness, face the dawn. ENDING: Thus the rift in time was mended, and all were returned to their respective eras. Shanoa continued to hunt for Albus, the traitor who stole the Order's most powerful Glyph: Dominus. His behavior was baffling -- using Dominus to imprison villagers, then suddenly emerging and allowing Shanoa to absorb a portion of the stolen Glyph... What was Albus's true agenda? What power dwelled within Dominus? Serving the cruel whims of fate, Shanoa would ultimately discover the shocking truth... -------------------- iii. ERIC LECARDE -------------------- SELECT SCREEN: "Underestimate me and pay the price." "So, who am I fighting?" "Is it my turn?" PRE-BATTLE QUOTES: "Fight me as you would a grown man. I do not want your mercy." "Witness the might of the Alucard Spear!" (vs. evil) "I will teach you to fear the bite of my lance." (vs. Eric) "Well, this is interesting... But my one lance is all this world needs!" "Whatever sorcery spawned you, it shall prove no match for the true me!" (vs. Trevor or "I am most eager to witness the might of your storied dynasty." Simon) (vs. Maria) "They say your power surpasses even that of a Belmont. Let us see it, then!" (vs. Alucard) "Sir, let me show how powerful your spear truly is!" (vs. Dracula) "You'll learn there are deadlier weapons than the meager whip." POST-BATTLE QUOTES: "You underestimated me. Did you think me a child?" "Already over? Well, that didn't amount to much." (vs. evil) "You pitiful fool. Did you honestly think you could win?" (vs. Eric) "So you were a mere imposter... And a shoddy one at that." (vs. Trevor, "That's it? That'll teach me to trust in fairy tales." Simon, Maria) (vs. Alucard) "What a shame. I had hoped for a more meaningful challenge." (vs. Dracula) "I've made my point. What need has a warrior for a whip?" --- STORY MODE: OPENING: When the sacred whip known as the Vampire Killer passed to the Morris family, another enchanted weapon -- the Alucard Spear -- was granted to the Belmont relatives of House Lecarde. The spear was designed to help the Lecardes support the Morris clan in their ongoing struggle against Dracula. As the years passed, Eric Lecarde trained diligently with the lance, despite a growing dissatisfaction with his role in this venerable pact. One day he left his home as usual, only to find himself standing in a most unusual place... BATTLE 1: Aeon: Right on time. Welcome to the time rift. Eric: A time rift? Huh... I see. Aeon: This is where you'll find what you desire. But first, there are many trials you must pass. Eric: What I desire... Then I shall make short work of your tests. Aeon: My name is Aeon. Shall we begin the first trial? AFTER LOSS Aeon: You must be stronger to find what you seek. AFTER WIN Aeon: The road is now open. Search for that which you long for. BATTLE 4: Alucard: That lance... It has been ages... Are you of House Lecarde? Eric: It was you who entrusted my family with this spear... Alucard: Quite. And the Morris clan, how fare they? Eric: I've been thinking... So long as I have this lance, who needs their whip? Alucard: The spear is a tool to compliment the power of the whip. Nothing more. Eric: Your creation, and yet even you underestimate its power. I will prove it to you! AFTER LOSS Alucard: I'll not tell you your place. You must learn who you are. AFTER WIN Eric: Now do you respect the spear? Or perhaps... it is I you now respect. BATTLE 7: Eric: That whip! You must be a Belmont! Trevor: That I am. But you would do well to watch your tone, young man. Eric: You think just because you're older, you're better than me? Trevor: Charming. Seems you could use a little lesson on manners. Eric: Sounds like fun! And I'll teach you that your precious whip isn't half the weapon you take it for! AFTER LOSS Trevor: Learn your lesson and mind your tongue. AFTER WIN Eric: As expected, even the house of the whip can be toppled by my lance. BATTLE 10: Maria: Wow! A huge lance! Eric: The power to control animals... Could it be? Maria Renard? Maria: That's me, but... who're you? Eric: I am Eric Lecarde. I can't believe it's really you... Maria: Quit staring at me like that! ...Creep. Eric: Show me the power said to surpass even that of a Belmont! [Note: Maria's voice adds an "ew" before her last line.] AFTER LOSS Maria: Know what? I think Richter's stronger than you after all. AFTER WIN Eric: Now I'm certain. I needn't fear even Dracula himself! BATTLE 11: Aeon: Right on time. You must be the chosen one. Eric: My business here is finished. Kindly show me the way out. Aeon: I'm sorry to inform you we are being held here by a mutual enemy. Eric: And yet you chose to come here. So I bet you know a way out. Aeon: We can now open the door to our final enemy. But we must decide who will fight him. Eric: Then there's no problem. I will go. Aeon: Ah, but there is still one problem. We will have but a single chance to defeat him. Eric: And you don't believe in me yet. Fine, I'll take you on! Aeon: That is my desire. AFTER LOSS Aeon: You are not the one. Then I must go myself... AFTER WIN Eric: Worry not. I assure you I will win. BATTLE 12: Time Reaper: I come from ten thousand years hence. Eric: ...And my spear will send you right back! ENDING: Thus the rift in time was mended, and all were returned to their respective eras. Many years later, Eric's true love would be turned into a vampire by Dracula's niece, Elizabeth Bartley. Rudely awakened to his destiny, Eric joined John Morris to help unleash the power sealed in the mighty Vampire Killer whip. Together, they succeeded in destroying both Countess Bartley and Dracula. But soon that triumph would be tainted when Eric learned of the terrible price that came with the full power of the whip... -------------------- iv. SYPHA BELNADES -------------------- SELECT SCREEN: "Prepare to face my righteous fury." "Don't hold back because I'm a woman." "Very well. Let us begin." PRE-BATTLE QUOTES: "I shall fight you in the name of all my oppressed sisters." "If you wish to see the power of the elements, it would be my pleasure." (vs. evil or "Foul creature of darkness -- your end is nigh." Alucard) (vs. good) "Brand me a heretic and I shall wear the title proudly." (vs. Sypha) "A doppelganger?! No, I sense my same magic power in her." "Another me? She seems no mere illusion..." (vs. Trevor or "I would witness for myself the fearsome might of a true vampire Simon) hunter." (vs. Dracula "Accursed vampire! It is time to die!" or Alucard) POST-BATTLE QUOTES: "To truly change our world, I must grow stronger still." "All power pales next to the forces of nature." (vs. evil or "Were it not for fiends like you, I could be free of my Alucard) torment..." (vs. good) "You must learn the difference between the wicked and the righteous." (vs. Sypha) "Did your heart confuse your head? No matter, it's over now." (vs. Trevor or "You can never trust a man's reputation." Simon) (vs. Dracula "And to think I worried I was not a true vampire hunter." or Alucard) --- STORY MODE: OPENING: A witch who harnessed the power of the dead to control the elements, Sypha Belnades lived in a time when her kind were feared and persecuted. Granted the protection of the Church, Sypha vowed to hunt down the forces of evil and help mankind, despite their continued oppression of her sisters. One day, while out working alone, she was approached by a stranger... BATTLE 1: Aeon: Right on time. Welcome to the time rift. Sypha: A rift in time...? You are saying I was summoned here...? Aeon: This is a place where you may touch that which you desire most. Yet there are trials you must pass. Sypha: If it will help me achieve my goal, I will accept your challenge. Aeon: My name is Aeon. Shall we begin the first trial? AFTER LOSS Aeon: You must be stronger to find what you seek. AFTER WIN Aeon: The road is now open. Search for that which you long for. BATTLE 4: Sypha: Werewolf! Prepare to be cleansed! Cornell: Hold! Do not be fooled by my appearance -- I am your ally. Sypha: Am I to trust your kind? You would say anything to get close, then strike without warning. Cornell: You are mistaken! I would never do such a thing! Sypha: Foul creature of darkness. Repent before my power. AFTER LOSS Cornell: Not everything born of darkness is a threat to mankind. AFTER WIN Sypha: I have no mercy for anything tainted by darkness. BATTLE 7: Sypha: The energy you radiate... it's that of a vampire! Shanoa: I do not know. I know only that I possess the power to defeat them. Sypha: You cannot hide the truth. I can feel it. Shanoa: You'll not be satisfied with any explanation... Sypha: In the name of persecuted witches everywhere, I cannot let this pass. AFTER LOSS Shanoa: My power is not meant to be used against the likes of you. AFTER WIN Sypha: All who wield the dark arts must pay the price. BATTLE 10: Sypha: It's you! Carmilla! Carmilla: You're that church-witch, aren't you? All snug and comfy in your holy robes. Proud of yourself? Sypha: What do you mean? Carmilla: Well, I understand witches face certain... trials... lately? Sypha: That all began because you monsters meddled with the hearts and minds of mankind! Carmilla: That is the true nature of man. We merely gave it a little nudge. Come, show me your true nature now. AFTER LOSS Carmilla: Not nearly as entertaining as I had hoped. AFTER WIN Sypha: Hear me, my lost sisters -- I have punished one who began your persecution! BATTLE 11: Aeon: Right on time. You must be the chosen one. Sypha: A touch of what I desired... Just as you promised... Aeon: Excellent. However, to leave this place, you must pass one last trial. Sypha: And what is that? Aeon: The enemy that trapped us here. He would destroy this era of time. He must be stopped. Sypha: In that case, I will defeat him. Aeon: Ah, but there is still one problem. We will have but a single chance to defeat him. Sypha: Then let us decide who is best suited to face him. Aeon: That is my desire. AFTER LOSS Aeon: You are not the one. Then I must go myself... AFTER WIN Sypha: You were wrong not to believe in my powers. BATTLE 12: Time Reaper: I come from ten thousand years hence. Sypha: Elemental spirits -- lend me your power. ENDING: Thus the rift in time was mended, and all were returned to their respective eras. Sypha Belnades returned to battle as a hunter for the Church. Years later, a powerful vampire appeared calling himself Dracula. The Church wasted no time in arranging a hunting party. Sypha would travel to a land well known for its fear of witches. Only a few months earlier, a young woman had been killed there on suspicion of witchcraft. To protect herself, Sypha decided she would enter the battle in disguise, as a man... -------------------- v. TREVOR BELMONT -------------------- SELECT SCREEN: "Feel the might of House Belmont!" "Come! Fight with honor!" "You will regret challenging me." PRE-BATTLE QUOTES: "You will witness the power of a true vampire hunter." "Come then -- to battle." "No matter who may challenge, my clan will not falter." (vs. evil) "Creature of the night -- you will not escape the grasp of my whip." (vs. Trevor) "Did you believe this cheap trick would cause me to waver?" "One whip is all this world needs. Begone!" (vs. Grant) "It's been many moons since our last match. Come." (vs. Sypha) "I'm relieved you don't know me. It will make testing you easier." (vs. Alucard) "This time, I ask you hold nothing back." (vs. Simon) "We shall see if you possess skills worthy of my whip." (vs. Dracula) "It's time I repaid you for these scars." POST-BATTLE QUOTES: "That is the power men feared." "Without total concentration -- total devotion -- you cannot best me." "I shall not allow any dishonor to befall the Belmont name." (vs. evil) "All creatures of darkness must fall." (vs. Trevor) "There can only be one Trevor Belmont." (vs. Grant) "What has happened to you? Your skills have dulled." (vs. Sypha) "I have finally seen the true measure of your abilities." (vs. Alucard) "I know you held back your true power." (vs. Simon) "You're not yet ready. You must continue training." --- STORY MODE: OPENING: Of his clan of vampire hunters, Trevor Belmont was the first to defeat their mortal enemy, Count Dracula. But several years after Dracula's downfall, the vampire's cult of worshippers stirred once again. No sooner had Trevor arrived in Wallachia to investigate, than a strange vision appeared before him... BATTLE 1: Aeon: Right on time. Welcome to the time rift. Trevor: A rift in time? Explain what you mean. Aeon: This is where you'll find what you desire. But first, there are many trials you must pass. Trevor: A test? Intriguing. Aeon: My name is Aeon. Shall we begin the first trial? AFTER LOSS Aeon: You must be stronger to find what you seek. AFTER WIN Aeon: The road is now open. Search for that which you long for. BATTLE 4: Trevor: My whip? Are you of House Belmont? Simon: I am Simon Belmont. That whip... You can't be! Trevor: Trevor, yes. Time rift, eh... Fascinating. Simon: I have always dreamed of challenging you. Trevor: Then you're in luck. Let's see what you can do! AFTER LOSS Simon: Perhaps the truth behind some legends is better left unknown... AFTER WIN Trevor: A bit more training, I should think. Then you may be ready. BATTLE 7: Trevor: Ah, a familiar face... It's been many moons... or are we yet to meet? Alucard: Many moons indeed. I awoke 300 years after we parted. Trevor: In our last skirmish, you spared me your full strength. This time I ask you hold nothing back. Alucard: Very well. In the name of our old friendship then... AFTER LOSS Alucard: I fear time has dulled your skills. AFTER WIN Trevor: An empty victory. It is your father I am truly after. BATTLE 10: Trevor: Sypha? You're so young. Sypha: Who are you? Why do you know my name? Trevor: This should make it clear. Care to test the power of a true vampire hunter? Sypha: A Belmont? I've been waiting for this! Trevor: I confess wondering what this would be like... Show me what a hunter of the church can do. AFTER LOSS Sypha: And you call yourself a true vampire hunter... AFTER WIN Trevor: I fought fair and won the day. If only that held true in our household... BATTLE 11: Aeon: Right on time. You must be the chosen one. Trevor: And yet I sense we cannot depart just yet. Aeon: We have been imprisoned here by a common enemy. Unless we defeat that foe... Trevor: I'll do it. How shall I proceed? Aeon: All of the souls trapped here have been collected. They are the key that will lead to our enemy. Trevor: Then I will go. Aeon: There is one problem... We will have but a single chance to defeat him. Trevor: Doubt me, do you? No matter -- I'll prove my worthiness. Aeon: That is my desire. AFTER LOSS Aeon: You are not the one. Then I must go myself... AFTER WIN Trevor: Leave it to me. Nothing will stand in my way. BATTLE 12: Time Reaper: I come from ten thousand years hence. Trevor: On my honor as a Belmont, I will defeat you! ENDING: Thus the rift in time was mended, and all were returned to their respective eras. Trevor Belmont pursued Dracula's minions to a dark sorceror said to be at least as powerful as Death himself. The ensuing confrontation between Trevor and two opposing Devil Forgemasters would revive Castlevania once again... -------------------- vi. MARIA RENARD -------------------- SELECT SCREEN: "I'll beat the stuffing out of 'em!" "I'm just the girl for the job." "All right!" PRE-BATTLE QUOTES: "I may be cute as a button, but I'm tough as nails." "Please everyone, give me your strength." "I may not be sure what's going on, but I'm POSITIVE I won't lose." "Wha-owww!" (after tripping) (vs. evil) "I'd never, ever let a twisted freak like you get away!" (vs. good) "I'll give it everything I've got!" (vs. Maria) "Two of me?! You won't get away with that!" (vs. Alucard "Somehow he seemed kinda... sad." or Golem) (vs. Sypha or "Hope mine turn out like those..." Shanoa) (vs. Dracula) "Had enough? At least we skipped the lecture this time." --- STORY MODE: OPENING: An orphan ever since her parents were slain by Dracula, Maria Renard possessed great power despite her young age. Her gift, dominion over animals including the four Celestial Beasts, granted her strength that rivaled even that of a Belmont. Several years after helping Richter Belmont defeat Dracula, Maria sensed a strange unease among her animal friends. Beneath the light of a full moon, she ventured into a dark forest seeking answers. But there, a most unusual scene played out before her... BATTLE 1: Aeon: Right on time. Welcome to the time rift. Maria: Who are you, mister? What's a time rift? Aeon: This is where you'll find what you desire. But first, there are many trials you must pass. Maria: What? I get a present? Okay, I'll take your test! Aeon: My name is Aeon. Sypha: I am. If you're here, you must be one as well? Maria: Uh-huh. They're huge... Sypha: Will you stop? These things only get in the way. Maria: H-how can you say that?! Those are a sacred gift! AFTER LOSS Sypha: I'm sorry... You'll understand when you're older. AFTER WIN Maria: It's not like I was just gonna let you win! BATTLE 10: Maria: Omigod! Vampire! Carmilla: Why hello, sweetie pie. You'll make a nice little appetizer... Maria: Even the vampire's are bigger than mine! Carmilla: What are you babbling about? Maria: No way am I losing to you! AFTER LOSS Carmilla: So adorable. I know, I'll let you be my servant. AFTER WIN Maria: Just proves it's not enough to look good on the outside if you're rotten on the inside. BATTLE 11: Aeon: Right on time. You must be the chosen one. Maria: I wonder if my wish has been granted...? Aeon: Time will bring what you desire. Yet you should realize your faith in appearances will fade, like a dream. Maria: Mmm, yeah, well, maybe... Aeon: There is still a great enemy that must be defeated. The door to that foe is already open. Maria: An evil villain? Then I'll help you fight! Aeon: Which leads to our final dilemma... The door will allow only a single being to enter. Maria: So you're saying... We fight, and only the winner goes on? Aeon: That is my desire. AFTER LOSS Aeon: You are not the one. Then I must go myself... AFTER WIN Maria: Okay, I'll take it from here. I'll do my best! BATTLE 12: Time Reaper: I come from ten thousand years hence. Maria: Byakko, Suzaku, Genbu, Seiryuu -- give me your strength! ENDING: Thus the rift in time was mended, and all were returned to their respective eras. The next year, Maria set out in search of the missing Richter Belmont. A year into her quest, Castlevania suddenly reappeared, five years after its destruction. Inside, Maria met Alucard once again, and finally found Richter. But Richter had become a completely different man, having named himself the lord of Castlevania... -------------------- vii. One fateful night, the heir to this dynasty, Simon Belmont, entered a dark forest. Having triumphed over Dracula, he was pursuing the last of the vampire's minions. But suddenly, before his eyes, a strange spectacle unfolded... BATTLE 1: Aeon: Right on time. Welcome to the time rift. Simon: Time rift? Speak sense, man. Aeon: This is where you'll find what you desire. But first, there are many trials you must pass. Simon: There is a strange air about this place... Very well, I shall have to take you at your word. Aeon: My name is Aeon. Shall we begin the first trial? AFTER LOSS Aeon: You must be stronger to find what you seek. AFTER WIN Aeon: The road is now open. Search for that which you long for. BATTLE 4: Sypha: The Belmont whip? I ask you show me the power of a true vampire hunter. Simon: Pardon m'lady, but I will not fight a woman. Sypha: Do not underestimate me! BATTLE 12: Time Reaper: I come from ten thousand years hence. Simon: On my honor as a Belmont... I will destroy you! ENDING: Thus the rift in time was mended, and all were returned to their respective eras. Six years later, a mysterious woman would tell Simon Belmont of the curse placed upon him. To free himself from that curse, he would have to collect Dracula's remains -- his nail, heart, rib bone, eyeball, and ring -- and burn them all at the ruins of Castlevania. And with that, Simon set off on a new quest... -------------------- viii. ALUCARD -------------------- SELECT SCREEN: "You stand in my way. Move or die." "Who calls me?" "Very well. Come." But Dracula heeds the call of man, arising time and time again. So Alucard wandered the ages, forever seeking a way to complete his father's destruction. One night during his travels, Alucard felt a strange presence. He turned to find a man who seemed not to exist at all... BATTLE 1: Aeon: Right on time. Welcome to the time rift. Alucard: You wander through time? To what end? Aeon: This is another world, where the impossible is possible. But there are trials to endure... Alucard: I see... So that is the key to ending this farce. Aeon: My name is Aeon. Shall we begin the first trial? AFTER LOSS Aeon: Your soul is free from time, yet this is your best? AFTER WIN Aeon: The road is now open. Search for that which you long for. BATTLE 4: Alucard: Dracula's plaything? Carmilla: My, my, what a dirty mouth you have. We vampires should be friends. Alucard: Never. I will never join you. Carmilla: You share the blood of Lord Dracula, and yet you would stand against me? Alucard: Enough talk. It is time for you to die. Carmilla: You -- I will carve off your flesh like an apple skin, boy! AFTER LOSS Carmilla: You thought to defy me? Foolish boy... AFTER WIN Alucard: Back, now, to where you belong. BATTLE 7: Death: In the name of your father, will you not change your mind? Alucard: You needn't ask again. My answer will always be the same. Death: Then that was my final offer. Do you intend to fight your lord father? Alucard: Of course. Death: But you have never fought in single combat with the Master at his full power. Alucard: Perhaps not... But here, in this place, I may yet topple him. Death: Insolent child. You will never cross us again. AFTER LOSS Death: Foolish child... Death is my domain. AFTER WIN Alucard: To oppose Dracula... That is my fate. BATTLE 10: Dracula: Ah, my long-lost boy. Well met, my son. Alucard: This will mark the first time I face you at your full strength. Dracula: Yes, you were with that wretched Belmont, and I had not reached my full power. Alucard: In truth, I may have been frightened... scared to confront my own father. Dracula: You're as soft as ever, boy. You truly hope to challenge me? Alucard: This time, I will not hesitate. This time, the son will surpass the father! Dracula: Very well, child. Come. AFTER LOSS Dracula: Remember your place, boy. You will never surmount me. AFTER WIN Alucard: To destroy you completely, I will use everything I am. BATTLE 11: Aeon: Right on time. You must be the chosen one. Alucard: So this was all as you had planned. Aeon: There is just one last thing. Alucard: Have I not collected every key? What lies beyond that door? Aeon: A visitor from ten thousand years in the future. A servant of one who would rule over all creation. Alucard: And I must defeat him to return to my world. Aeon: Which leads to our final dilemma... The door will allow only a single being to enter. Alucard: So that's why you're here... Very well. Aeon: Ah, you catch on quick. Shall we get started? AFTER LOSS Aeon: You are not the one. Then I must go myself... AFTER WIN Alucard: I will put an end to this useless fighting. BATTLE 12: Time Reaper: I come from ten thousand years hence. Alucard: This place is not for such as you. ENDING: Thus the rift in time was mended, and all were returned to their respective eras. Alucard continued to search for a way to destroy Dracula once and for all. When a prophecy foretold the arrival of a great lord of darkness in 1999, Alucard began preparations. Then prophecy became reality. Using a solar eclipse, Alucard succeeded in breaking Dracula's endless cycle of resurrection. But then came a new prophecy... "In 2035, during a solar eclipse, a castle will arise in Japan..." So Alucard infiltrated a top-secret Japanese government agency, and resumed his vigil... -------------------- ix. (vs. good) "It is ill fortune our paths should cross here." (vs. good) "Not all children of the night are evil." (vs. Cornell) "Would I have survived without this damned power?" (vs. Dracula) "I do not need your power." --- STORY MODE: OPENING: An ancient curse once befell a tribe of warriors, turning all its people into beasts. Only Cornell -- the "Blue Crescent Moon," as he was called -- could control his transformation. But one day, while out training, Cornell's power ran amok, trapping him in beast form. When he came to, a man stood before him... BATTLE 1: Aeon: Right on time. Welcome to the time rift. Cornell: A rift in time? Is that why I can't return to human form? Aeon: That is correct. But this place also holds an answer you seek. Cornell: The curse of the beast-men... Release me. Aeon: My name is Aeon. Shall we begin the first trial? AFTER LOSS Aeon: You must be stronger to find what you seek. AFTER WIN Aeon: The road is now open. Search for that which you long for. BATTLE 4: Cornell: Those garments... Are you clergy? Sypha: That's no business of yours, beast. Cornell: You must tell me -- can your holy arts cure my affliction? Sypha: Your curse has been with us since ancient times. Nothing can be done. Death is your only salvation. Cornell: I... see... But I cannot let you defeat me. AFTER LOSS Sypha: Those who dwell in darkness must be destroyed. AFTER WIN Cornell: Is there truly no hope I can ever be freed? BATTLE 7: Carmilla: What have we here? A little doggy who seems to have slipped his leash. Cornell: A vampire? Leave me be. Carmilla: Oh? Are you sure? Guess you're not interested in what I heard from Death about your little... problem? Cornell: What?! Carmilla: If you want a treat, you have to obey. So be a good doggie and play dead! AFTER LOSS Carmilla: A child of the night who seeks the sun. Pathetic. AFTER WIN Cornell: Death... does he hold the key? BATTLE 10: Cornell: Death, I've found you. What do you know of this curse? Death: With the dark arts we command your affliction can be remedied. Cornell: Truly? You swear it?! Death: What would I gain with a lie? Now, come with me. Cornell: I trust what you say of the curse, but I do not trust you. I will find the way on my own! AFTER LOSS Death: With this, the Master's next reincarnation is assured. AFTER WIN Cornell: So there is a way to end this torment... BATTLE 11: Aeon: Right on time. You must be the chosen one. Cornell: I learned part of the answer I seek, but only part... Aeon: All will be revealed, in time... However, you must escape this place. Cornell: Indeed, this form wears on my spirit... Aeon: The souls trapped in this place are the key to the final door. And yet... Cornell: ...More than just a door stands in my way. Aeon: Correct, an opponent awaits. And the door allows only one being entry. Cornell: If I must... Aeon: Excellent. A trial of strength, then. AFTER LOSS Aeon: You are not the one. Then I must go myself... AFTER WIN Cornell: I will make my own road. I will find my own answers. BATTLE 12: Time Reaper: I come from ten thousand years hence. Cornell: I will defeat you and escape. For Ada's sake. ENDING: Thus the rift in time was mended, and all were returned to their respective eras. Cornell could once again control his power and return to human form. However, having come no closer to finding a true cure, he headed home in despair. He returned to find his village in flames and his sister Ada -- his only kin -- abducted. And so Cornell set out to save her, and a new battle began... -------------------- x. CARMILLA -------------------- SELECT SCREEN: "Hmhmhm... I'll enjoy this." "Come. Play with me." (vs. evil or "We are both children of the night, but challenge me and you Alucard) will fall." (vs. good) "I wonder how your blood will taste?" (vs. good) "Any who oppose Lord Dracula earn my wrath." (vs. Carmilla) "Oooh, how exciting. Let's get it on." "Can the world handle two such beauties?" (vs. Alucard "A child of the night, yet so self-righteous -- disgusting!" or Cornell) (vs. Golem) "Whatever you are, I'll put you out of your misery." (vs. Death) "You, always at Dracula's side! That's my place!" (vs. Dracula) "Should I win, my lord, will you grant me my wish?" POST-BATTLE QUOTES: "Your sweet cires of agony give me goose bumps." [sic] "Don't worry, you'll come to enjoy this." "Will you ever know how foolish you are?" (vs. evil or "Only Dracula has the stamina to face me." Alucard) (vs. good) "You cannot defy Lord Dracula and expect to live." (vs. good) "I love playing with my food before dinner." (vs. Carmilla) "Beauty AND strength, dear." (vs. Alucard "Fool, if you had only listened to reason..." or Cornell) (vs. Golem) "Ah, that's better..." (vs. Dracula) "I am your humble servant, Lord Dracula." --- STORY MODE: OPENING: Beloved by the night, only the pale light of the moon was allowed to illuminate the exquisite beauty of the vampiress Carmilla. She awoke in darkness from her long slumber, believing the time had come to aid in Dracula's resurrection. Hunting for a victim to slake her deep thirst, she happened across a man with a strange air about him... BATTLE 1: Aeon: Right on time. Welcome to the time rift. Carmilla: A rift in time? Do tell. Aeon: This is where you'll find what you desire. But first, there are many trials you must pass. Carmilla: Why not? You'll let me have my fun now, won't you? Aeon: My name is Aeon. Shall we begin the first trial? AFTER LOSS Aeon: You must be stronger to find what you seek. AFTER WIN Aeon: The road is now open. Search for that which you long for. BATTLE 4: Carmilla: Well, if it isn't Lord Dracula's boy. Alucard: Carmilla, is it? Carmilla: How long will you antagonize your lord and father? Alucard: You already know the answer. I won't stop until you're all destroyed. Carmilla: Self-righteous as ever. Well, I've had it with you. Prepare yourself! AFTER LOSS Alucard: Back, now, to where you belong. AFTER WIN Carmilla: Ah, I do feel better, but it's only whet my appetite. BATTLE 7: Shanoa: A vampire! Carmilla: Oh... that energy... I taste the dark flavors of the night. Shanoa: That's no concern of yours. This power is your bane. It will destroy you and Dracula both. Carmilla: The power of the night belongs to us, child! It's not for humans to trifle with! AFTER LOSS Shanoa: I am the blade that dispels the darkness. That is my sole purpose in this world. AFTER WIN Carmilla: Man or woman, can no one satisfy me? BATTLE 10: Carmilla: So there you are, Blue Crescent Moon. Cornell: A vampire. Still hoping I'll join your lot? Carmilla: Lord Dracula has need of you... but I most certainly do not. Cornell: Then state your business! Carmilla: Impudent cur! You're no true child of the night. Maggots will feast on your hide! AFTER LOSS Cornell: I never asked to be one of you... a child of the night. AFTER WIN Carmilla: Ah, that's more like it. You will learn your place as a child of the night. BATTLE 11: Aeon: Right on time. You must be the chosen one. Carmilla: I've not had my fill yet, but this place bores me. Aeon: We have been locked in this place by a common foe. Escape will not be easy. Carmilla: Then you'll escort me, now. Aeon: When all the souls imprisoned here were collected, they formed a key to the door leading to our enemy. Carmilla: Fine, then open it. Aeon: Which leads to our final dilemma... The door will allow only a single being to enter. Carmilla: You would interfere with my gratification? Then we will fight. Aeon: That is my desire. AFTER LOSS Aeon: You are not the one. Then I must go myself... AFTER WIN Carmilla: An amusing toy until I broke it... BATTLE 12: Time Reaper: I come from ten thousand years hence. Carmilla: You're not worthy to lick the feet of my Lord Dracula. ENDING: Thus the rift in time was mended, and all were returned to their respective eras. Carmilla would go on to be slain by many different hunters, only to rise time and again alongside her lord Dracula. Even as she endured this perpetual torment, her loyalty and devotion to Dracula never faltered. Perhaps her beauty was more than skin deep after all... -------------------- xi. GOLEM -------------------- SELECT SCREEN: "Me angry. You afraid." "Who me fight?" "Me fight now?" PRE-BATTLE QUOTES: "Me fight to live" "Fighting bad. But now must fight." Cornell) (vs. Golem) "Me is the only me." (vs. Carmilla) "Bye bye, Mama." (vs. Dracula "Now me think for self. Me happy." or Death) --- STORY MODE: OPENING: A living puppet with a spirit born of black magic, Golem was built to serve his creator's will. His only purpose was to guard long-forgotten ruins from any who might intrude. But when he was sucked into the time rift, a soul took root in his artificial spirit... BATTLE 1: Aeon: Right on time. Welcome to the time rift. Golem: Why me here? Aeon: This place has granted you self-awareness. Surely there is something you wish to know. Golem: Why... why me live? Aeon: My name is Aeon. Shall we begin the first trial? AFTER LOSS Aeon: If only I could make you see reason... Such a waste. AFTER WIN Aeon: The road is now open. Search for that which you long for. BATTLE 4: Golem: Human? Cornell: Yes, I am human. What you see is the result of an ancient curse. Golem: Curse? Curse make human beast... Curse make me human? Cornell: I've not heard of such a thing. Golem: Liar. Lying bad. ENDING: Thus the rift in time was mended, and all were returned to their respective eras. As Aeon had warned, Golem's newfound self-awareness could not persist outside that special dimension. After his return, he was destroyed by some unknown hunter, still oblivious to all he had experienced in the rift. He was created to oppose man, but for a brief moment his soul awakened. Had he the words, he would only have wanted to express the joy of thinking and acting for oneself... the joy of being alive. -------------------- xii. Death: Wanderer of time -- is this age on the verge of collapse? Aeon: Ah, you see much. We need the soul keys, gained by passing a series of trials. BATTLE 11: Aeon: Right on time. You must be the chosen one. Death: Everything should be in place. Aeon: It most certainly is. All thanks to your efforts. Death: Now, what fiend would dare challenge my Lord Dracula? Aeon: A messenger from ten thousand years in the future. Sent by one seeking your lord's throne of darkness. Death: Then he must be stopped at once. Aeon: Which leads to our final dilemma... The door will allow only a single being to enter. Death: I see no dilemma. I will go -- through you, if need be... AFTER WIN Aeon: The road is now open. Search for that which you long for. BATTLE 4: Maria: Oh, it's the nasty old man! Dracula: It's you... Insufferable little wretch! Maria: I won't let you get away with hurting people anymore! Dracula: This time I will tear you limb from limb! AFTER LOSS Maria: Hah! Didn't ya know? Good always wins over evil. AFTER WIN Dracula: Too easy. It did nothing to slake my burning thirst. BATTLE 7: Simon: Count Dracula? Here?! Dracula: You... I remember you, Simon Belmont. Simon: I'm honored... Though shortly, it will mean nothing. Dracula: Why wait for my curse to finish you? I'll kill you here and now. AFTER LOSS Simon: However often you return, you will always find a Belmont waiting. AFTER WIN Dracula: Pitiful human. Your kind cannot defeat me now. BATTLE 10: Dracula: Trevor Belmont! Trevor: Dracula?! Dracula: The first man to destroy me. At last, sweet vengeance. I will savor this. Trevor: As I will savor this chance to repay you for my scars. Dracula: Come then. What a suitable finale this will make! AFTER LOSS Trevor: The Belmont clan exists for one reason: to see you vanquished! AFTER WIN Dracula: Good and evil are just words. Power always wins. BATTLE 11: Aeon: Right on time. You must be the chosen one. Dracula: I've played your silly little game long enough. Time is secure now, is it not? Aeon: Not quite. One last foe remains. A servant of he who hunts you from ten thousand years in the future. Dracula: I fear no one requiring such absurd means to face me. Aeon: With the final key the time barrier can be opened. Your final opponent awaits. Dracula: Enough of your theatrics. Take me to him. Aeon: Which leads to our final dilemma... The door will allow only a single being to enter. Dracula: No matter. I will crush you and be on my way. Aeon: You will not pass so easily. AFTER LOSS Aeon: You are not the one. Then I must go myself... AFTER WIN Dracula: Insect... Did you forget who I am? BATTLE 12: Time Reaper: I come from ten thousand years hence. Dracula: Of course. And your next stop: oblivion! ENDING: Thus the rift in time was mended, and all were returned to their respective eras. A man who lost his heart and soul in his hatred of God... A man who lost his heart and soul in his hatred of humanity... His spirit is reborn in our world time and time again, not by his own will, but in answer to man's wicked call. It is no outside force that threatens to destroy the world. It is humanity itself that would be its own undoing. It is every thought, every action great and small, that brings the world closer to salvation or ruin. -------------------- xiv. AEON -------------------- SELECT SCREEN: "It is time to fight." "Who is my opponent?" "The time is now." PRE-BATTLE QUOTES: "In this place, I too am able to fight." "To mend the fabric of time, I ask you meet me in combat." (vs. Aeon) "Well now, what have we here?" "Two of us cannot be allowed to exist at once." (vs. Alucard, "Immortal one, you have ignored the passage of time long Carmilla, enough." Golem, Death, Dracula) POST-BATTLE QUOTES: "Right on time. This moment was pre-ordained." "I cannot allow that which would disrupt the flow of time." (vs. Aeon) "Time was on the verge of being destroyed." (vs. Alucard, "Immortals disrupt the flow of time, don't you see?" Carmilla, Golem, Death, Dracula) --- STORY MODE: Aeon's Story Mode is different from that of the other thirteen characters. For one thing, he must fight all thirteen, and he does not battle any creatures. He gets a conversation during the first, fifth, and thirteenth battles. His opponents for the first two are randomly chosen. Thus, the scenes consist of a line from Aeon and the last two lines of that character's final conversation with Aeon when playing through their story. OPENING: As a guardian of time, Aeon journeyed through the ages. One day, suddenly and without warning, a powerful entity appeared from 10,000 years in the future, determined to destroy the very fabric of time. Aeon enlisted the power of thirteen mighty souls, setting each on a path that would lead to this great enemy. With only a single chance at victory, Aeon must determine the most worthy champion for the battle ahead... BATTLE 1: Aeon: Right on time. However, only one may earn the right to face the final enemy. [Character's last line to Aeon] [Aeon's last line to character] AFTER LOSS [Character's victory line against Aeon] AFTER WIN Aeon: How unfortunate. I shall have to search for another. BATTLE 5: Aeon: So you've finally arrived. And yet, only one may proceed past this point. [Character's last line to Aeon] [Aeon's last line to character] AFTER LOSS [Character's victory line against Aeon] AFTER WIN Aeon: How unfortunate. I shall have to search for another. BATTLE 13: Aeon: And now, the final act. However, only one may proceed from here. Dracula: No matter. I will crush you and be on my way. Aeon: This trial will not be so simple. AFTER LOSS Dracula: Insect... Did you forget who I am? AFTER WIN Aeon: You are not the one. Then I must go myself... BATTLE 14: Time Reaper: I come from ten thousand years hence. Aeon: You will pay for disrupting the flow of time. Your hour is up! ENDING: Thus the rift in time was mended, and all were returned to their respective eras. Of course, Aeon had no era of his own to return to. Even now, he wanders time eternal, observing all that occurs. It is the only way to satisfy his infinite curiosity. Whenever the fabric of time is disturbed, he -- or rather, someone he enlists -- will arrive to repair it. And Aeon's role will remain forever shrouded in mystery...
